I went in there with every intention of ordering a Super Blackhawk 44 Bisley Hunter... But then I saw the 41 on consignment and made the mistake of asking to see it.
Not too big and heavy, not too little (weak) either.
Traded the Winchester 94 30-30 and $75 for it... Way less money than the Bisley Hunter!
This handgun hunting thing has bitten me good.
Also.... I sold the G40 MOS... Very fun pistol, but I just couldn't quite muster the accuracy I wanted out of it.... The gun was capable, I just couldn't master the Glock trigger to the degree that ethical hunting requires.
With the 41, the very first group I fired was a neat 6 rounds in one ragged hole... It was easy, the way it should be with a hunting gun.

Also... It came with an extra set of grips, Hogue rubber grips.
I put them on it, I don't particularly like the looks of them, but they do fit my rather large hands much better than the factory grips.
Man. Blackhawks are certainly elegant looking guns. Nice catch! And 41 magnum. Good cartridge. Deserved better than it got in the shadow of it's more popular big brother the 44 magnum.

I love my 41 Mag. Same thing you have. I have the Hogue Grips on mine also. They look big and kinda take away the nostalgic look of the Old West Six Gun but they sure are comfortable.
I don't care for the grips on the Blackhawk pistols. Seems too small to me.
Love the 41 mag cartridge though. I have 2 revolvers (Smith 57 8-3/8" and a Smith 657 7.5" hunter) and 2 lever guns in 41 mag; (Henry and Marlin 1894).

a 41 is on my to buy list .
The sight in and group therapy went very well... The groups were small.
1.5" at 25 yards with factory Hornady ammo... The 41 is a steadily accurate shooter, I think I'm a full on wheel gun convert.
Some things I realized today...I had wanted the 7.5 inch barrel hunter version, I'm glad I didn't get it. The 6.5" while not as pleasing to my eye is a better balanced pistol and easier to carry.
Had I gotten the hunter version I would have put an optic on it, which is all well and good... But I've come to realize it isn't necessary.
That 150 yard gong I had so much fun shooting with the 10mm, the open sighted 41 will bang on it just the same albeit with a little more authority.... Easily.
The 41 shoots straight with the sights adjusted to the center of their adjustment range...indicative of a properly assembled firearm.
Also, I ordered another Diamond D Guides Choice chest holster for it, same as I had for the 10mm.
The recoil... As compared to the 10mm Glock 40.
The Glock was firing 200 grain XTP's at 1,300 fps from the 7 inch KKM barrel.. The recoil was strong but "spongy", kinda like the trigger (best word I can think of to describe it).
The 6.5 inch 41 Mag wheelgun is firing 210 grain Hornady factory rounds at...... 1,300 fps......the recoil is stiff, certainly there, and not spongy for sure... But it feels good, brings a smile to my face every time, not painful at all but it lets you know you just touched off a fairly powerful round...appx. 15 ft. lbs. of recoil energy.
The recoil will get a little stiffer when my reloading components and dies arrive, but not by much... I've already decided that I'm not pushing for the ultimate +P max loads in this, just strong and accurate...judging by the reloading data I have (Hornady, Lyman, Speer, Hodgden, Sierra, Lee, and Nosler)....around 1,400 fps with 210 grain XTP's should be well within reason, and about 18 ft. lbs. of recoil energy.
Ballistics by the inch reported 1500 fps for the Speer Gold Dot 210 grain from a 7" contender barrel. They used a 4" S&W revolver in their real world section. The Revolver lagged 60 fps behind the contender barrel.
Using those data points, 1400 fps should be pretty attainable. Maybe even 1450, but like you said, favor accuracy over raw power.

Nice find! The .41 Magnum is under appreciated and the Ruger Blackhawk is a nice packing pistol.
I have a 4 5/8" Super Blackhawk and suffered from purple knuckle with the stock grips. I tried the rubber Hogues and it cured the knuckle assault but they are unattractive. Spent the bucks on some Hogue wooden single finger groove grips and now it's just right. Still a heavy little guy but very ergonomic. Last month at a friends home I was repeatedly hitting a metallic sheep target offhand at 110 yards.
Put a good WFN bullet( http://noebulletmolds.com/NV/index.php?cPath=40_218&osCsid=fep1jg5fqlt50o7ubru3kk97b0 ) in that puppy at @ 1,200fps or so and go kill any critter in North America.

I've had mine since 1980-81.
Wide variety of loads and bullets available, and they are accurate wheel guns, but a bit heavy after all day on the hip.
I put a pachmayer combat grip with a palm swell on mine and it shoots like a dream.
I bought it primarily because hiking through scrub oak getting into elk camp we'd encounter a bear now and then, but never did get to hunt one in the scrub oak. The bullets/case combo is large enough to legally take large game here in Colorado and I've taken a couple bucks with it over the years.
Back then you could shoot a bear during elk hunting season and then go buy the license!

I always like shooting that hand cannon in an indoor gun range, inevitably someone will inquire with a "what the hell is that you're shooting?" after loosing a few rounds down range and the deafening roar subsides!..lol
Just watched a YouTube video where a guy chronographs some loads with 207 grain cast bullets with a Max charge of AA9 powder... They were right at 1,400 fps, from a 4 5/8" barrel Blackhawk.
I've had my eye on AA9 this whole time... I have 2 pounds of it because I was using it in the 10mm.
I have a pound of 296 also, got it years ago for the Rossi 357... Still have the 357, haven't seen it in a long time, I got it for my Dad to keep at his house...I haven't loaded any rounds for it since I've had it.
I also have a mostly full pound of Longshot...
...my favorite revolver cartridge.....
I think you made the right choice between the two...the Hunter is a nice gun but very nose heavy... I have had both and sold the Hunter but still have the 1977 vintage 6.5" BH.... As to selling the Glock 40....no great loss. I still have mine but it will probably go down the road one day...

For topend loads try H110/296...same powder in a different can. 210s will usually take 22-24 grains so the bullet base just sits on top of the powder charge... For deer you may want to also look at the Sierra 170 JHC...26.0-26.5 of H110 runs I believe 1620 fps from a 6.5" BH... It is a very tough bullet....and does a number on deer.
