Hello. I plan to purchase an XDM 10mm very soon. I am torn between the 5.25 and 4.5 though. The slide cutout doesn't bother me; and dimensionally, I believe the only difference is the length. I plan to carry OWB when I go into the woods. I do reload and hope to create various recipes. So, is there anyone like me, at one point, and you pulled the trigger (pun intended) on one and not the other? And to be honest, when I first saw the two offerings my mind instantly went to the 5.25.
Thank You for reviewing my post!

Depends on yer size. I'm a big guy. I have carried a 10mm long slide in a shoulder holster. Note, at one time I carried a Contender Super 14. So I don't have issues with size or weight. That doesn't work for everybody. Add to that the type of shooting that you expect to encounter while packing. Is it most likely going to be a point and shoot? Or will you most likely have time to use the sights. Point and shoot I'd probably go with the short barrel. But there's no replacement for a well aimed shot and the longer barrel obviously means a longer sight radius= hitting the intended target.
I started with the G20 then sold it and bought the G40 when it came out because I prefer a longer sight radius and the slight increase in velocity with the longer barrel for woods carry. Neither XDm pistol is gonna be difficult to carry OWB. So, it comes down to your personal preference.
If Springfield would have offered a 6 inch version I would have bought it but I have no interest in a 5.25 barrel. I like the XDm platform. I own two of them right now and previously owned two more in 45 ACP and one XD in 9mm. My current IWB carry is an XDm 9mm compact and I have a full size version as a range toy. Their factory triggers are generally better than the Glocks and if you want to upgrade it, you can install a Powder River Precision Ultimate Match Trigger. I wouldn't recommend that trigger for concealed carry as it is really light but for range use it's great.
When I ordered my 4.5" the online supplier sent the 5 .25" by mistake. I was very tempted to keep the longer version or get both. I went with the 4.5 as it is part of my red rotation. For woods carry i would go 5.25.

I owned a Glock 20 as well and sold it too. The grip was too large for my hands even without any backstraps. And the G20 barrel is a tad bit shorter than the 5.25. Thank You for your post! D

OWB woods carry? 5.25 all day long.
I don't care for the adjustable site on the 5.25 otherwise I would have gone that route. If it had an optic cut I would have jumped on it immediately.
I'm not running this in 100yd competitions, anything I cant correct with proper height sights and drifting can be adjusted for easily inside of 50yds.
