Title: Cutting Edge Solid Copper
Post by: SPDSR on October 07 2018 10:51:00 AM MDT
I've searched around online several times over the past couple years for anyone offering these loaded, but still have never found a source. Cutting Edge doesn't know of anyone either. Has anyone found a place offering these loaded?? Not sure why CE doesn't load them since they do load their "defense" bullets.

It becomes a issue of cost of the projectile and final cost of ammo...Projectiles are over a buck each.  This is why handload your own brings about the option of using exotic projectiles.  The drawback then becomes load development where you are testing with these expensive projectiles finding the load that works without blowing out the casings.  At over a buck a shot it can add up quickly.

These copper solids are usually longer than copper jacketed lead core of the same weight and they occupy the case volume and it becomes a balancing act of charge weight of powder vs. velocity vs. pressure.  To help with pressure control these projectiles have bore riding bands to reduce frictional surfaces...

Good info. Someday I hope circumstances allow me to reload. It would still be cool if a manufacturer offered these loaded. Has anyone that has tried them found them to offer advantages over hardcast or fmjfn? I would assume they would be even less prone to deformation or shedding weight.
