Penetration and Velocity test, using Clear Ballistics Gel, of the Fenix 10MM FXP 180gr Speer Gold Dot.
Video includes brief spcification overview of the cartridge, and a one shot test. Test pistols are
Dan Wesson Classic 4' barrel.
Para Elite Hunter 6' barrel
Advertised velocity is 1300 fps. Chronograph velocities are shown in the video. Along with before and after shots of the 180gr Speer Gold Dot measuring expansion.
Another great video and testing. What some people don't understand, is that as the expansion occurs, is that they expand wider than what is measured because they continue to roll or peal back and wind up smaller diameter. In this testing the bonding of the lead core is still attached to the pedals even though some separated.?
Did you pull one apart to see what was loaded inside the Fenix with the 180 FXT? In the only pull-down we did of the FMJ they were using LongShot powder to make their numbers.
Test I did with JAG brass did show some great properties for handloading reuse...
Thanks for sharing your ballistic testing and review of Fenix 10mm ammunition!
Much appreciated and great job!!
Always interesting. Kinda lets me know where the Remington R1 of mine fits in ammo wise considering the R1 is pretty much the same gun. Thanks again.
Fenix ammo is good stuff. Since I sold my G29 10mm and got me a Beretta PX4 9mm I still have Fenix ammo for my 9mm.
Fenix 9mm 124 uses the Shellshock casing and Gold Dot bullet, loaded to do 1250 FPS. :o
Pretty wicked.
Wow that 9mm sounds wicked.
It is. The recoil is like a push, no snap. This velocity puts it between +P and +P+.
When you buy ammo from Fenix you cannot be in a hurry but they are well worth it.
Had some Underwood 9mm +P+ that made 1300+
Underwood 124 gr Nosler +P+ JHP
Ballistics Information: 9mm
Muzzle Velocity: 1300 fps
Muzzle Energy: 465 ft. lbs
AutoComp powder
I still have the box of Underwood 9mm +P. It is marked 9mm 124 XTP 1225 fps.
I talked to Fenix about their 10mm stuff. Sadly the 1375 fps advertised velocity is from a 5.75" barrel. Such an odd length, proof barrel? They said a G20 would only reach 1325. Still great speed!
$40 for 50 rounds doesnt seem bad until you tack on the $13.15 shipping.
I'll stick with Underwood.
Fenix 180 Gold Dot 1375fps- $40.00/50 rounds, $0.80/round
Advertised velocity is from a 5.75" barrel, who does that?
UW 180 Gold Dot 1300fps - $37.00/40 rounds, $0.925/round
Advertised velocity from a 5" barrel, you know, like the Delta Elite.

Very, very often Underwood runs 10% or free shipping sales.
I forgot to say it before, but nicely done man! That's a great video. Although you did say "Fenix" a lot, did they pay ya? Haha

I'm glad to see more boutiques showing up with 10mm on their mind. But it's going to be tough to dethrone Underwood.
What do we have now?
Underwood
Double Tap
Georgia Arms
Fenix
Defender Ammunition
Buffalo Bore

Minuteman ammo LLC, imo is the best deal by far for price and quality for full house 10mm. 165gr gold dots for $24.95 for 50. The Minuteman load beat the same Underwood load in the 3 guns I tested head to head.
They consistently beat there advertised velocity !

I found Minuteman Munitions. They have 40 s&w gold dots for $8.99 per 25. But no 10mm
