I was luck to find 180 XTP and 165 GDHPs Friday in my travels to local gun shops I have not been to before. SO, today I loaded most of them up!! ;)
Now these loads are proven safe in MY GUN may NOT BE IN YOURS. So if your gonna use my loads, start LO and work up slowly!! I have a 6"KKM barrel in a G20. I don't shoot these from my Delta.
I loaded up 100 pcs of 180 XTP with 9.7g Longshot powder, CCI 300 primers and WIN cases.
Then another 100 of 165 Speer GDHP's and 14g AA#9 powder with a Winchester Primer and Starline cases.
Lastly My bullets 200g Cast with 6g WW231 and a Winchester primer
I have 300 more cases sized, flared and primed ready to load.

Lucky! 8) However I think I would have mimicked the Underwood loadings using some IMR800X! ;D

I have used it in the past, but switched to Longshot because of suggestions here and over on GT... I got my first pound back in June IIRC, I like it so far, I am now on my second pound.

Just received 1000 Precision Bullet 185 grain 40 cal bullets. Somewhere I have a bag of about 1000 empty cases. And I resupplied my large pistol primers before you know who got re-elected, and had 8 pounds of Unique.
I should be good to go.

What suggestions have you come across regarding using Longshot over 800-X? Something different than that it's actually possible to meter Longshot?

800X is non existent..... Guys today done even know what it is!!! Longshot is a new powder and although at first was hard to find. I was able to get the second pound pretty easily...
Yes too, it meters very nicely. something even more important at the near nuke level loadings, ;)

I think the pressure curve of IMR800X is probably a little better than LongShot even though both in equal charge weights produce about the same velocity. Yes 800X is more of a weigh by hand measure, but the results of this turns out very precision Match Grade stuff. "QuickLoads" software still does not have info using IMR800X, I don't have the program but have seen and posted screen shots of some of my loads which were run on the program. It would be nice to have screen shots posted for the various Underwood loads, but with no data for 800X, that's not possible. Looking at the same weight charges in LongShot will show fairly close what 800X is doing.
I use both but save the LongShot more for my 9x25Dillon loads. I still need to workup some of the 9x25's using 800X... :D
Blue Dot is still one of my best all around powders... 8)
Makes sense. I have both 800-X and Longshot. I like the 800-X best for Nuclear loads since I've already run into Longshot flatlining (when at a point adding more Longshot actually began to reduce velocity), where 800-X was still happy being pushed further. Otherwise, from plinkers to what most folks are happy pushing 10mm to, Longshot works awesome.
Plus I don't have a progressive press and don't mind hand weighing charges anyway.
Funny, I'd read many times about how poorly 800-X meters. I loaded some for 357 SIG not long ago and found it to meter no worse than some other powders I've used. Powder measure is the RCBS model that comes in their RC reloading kit. The load was considered max by the manufacturer so I hand weighed it anyway.
Quote from: EdMc on March 02 2013 12:05:17 PM MSTfound it (800-X) to meter no worse than some other powders I've used.
I've seen others claim the same. Almost seems like some powder measures work decently with 800-X and others don't.
I can confirm that 800X doesn't meter in my Dillon Square Deal no matter what I try. The last time I tried I had variances of as much as .8 grains. I still have 5 lbs collecting dust in my cabinet, I'm not into hand weighing as I shoot too much.

That's more like what I commonly hear.

I wish you were close by, I'd buy it from you! It does meter fairly well from my RCBS Uniflow drop, within 0 to 6 flakes most of the time on the money! I do weigh every load, Why! I know that this precision has kept me safe (especially working in the upper limits of performance) and my accuracy has been great so far!
The pull-downs I have done are rewarding for all of us gain knowledge of what is being used in the commercial lineups! For that we have to thank Intercooler for sharing the stuff he has provided. I'm hoping to go test the last batch when I get caught up on things here since the computer crash and the long period of bad weather. I tried to till one section of garden and it was a mud bog! Today I'll be picking up more leaves!

Agree 110%!
Hi all.
Just joined.
Loaded up some of my 10mm brass and chrono'd the various loads.
Winchester once fired brass, WLP primer Longshot Power and 180gr Berry Plated FN bullets. AOL was 1.260"
This length fail to feed into the chamber from the mag in the Kimber but not the MP5.
All powder hand weighted on balance scale.
Bullet seated and crimped in a Dillon 650.
First up 5 rounds of each weight in a Kimber Custom Eclipse II 5" barrel (BP is bad primer, failed to go bang)
8.5gr 1277 1199 1224 BP BP
8.6gr 1228 1232 1234 1207 1245
8.7gr 1207 1205 1227 1278 1225
8.8gr 1252 1198 1264 1236 1269
8.9gr 1251 1252 1244 1270 1235
9.0gr 1233 1246 1200 1232 1232
Some of the higher numbers may have been because I was closer to the chrono than other times.
All rounds locked the slide back on a empty mag.
Next is 5 rounds of each weight in a MP5-10 8.9" barrel SBR
8.5gr 1299 1151 1270 1287 1322
8.6gr 1257 1250 1256 1265 1279
8.7gr 1333 1306 1338 BP 1338
8.8gr 1365 1330 1338 1275 1325
8.9gr 1331 1367 1334 1319 1299
9.0gr 1304 1334 1318 1306 1268
Loaded up all five rounds of each weight into the mag, all cycled the MP5 and locked the bolt open on a empty mag.
The kimber was throwing the brass quite a ways, so I suspect I need a new spring in the gun.
Need to try these loads again in my Dan Wesson Razorback as it has a low round count, and be more consistent in firing distance from the chrono.
Did not test for accuracy, just wanted to see what each load was producing speed wise and function testing the gun.
Next series of tests will be for accuracy at 15yds in the pistol and 25yds in the MP5-10.
Will set up the tests a little better next time.
Reduced the AOL to 1.250 and tested them feeding into the kimber. They feed well at that length. This is the same length as BVAC reloads I have.
What would be a new minimum powder load to bring these down to approx 1100fps in the pistol?
Thanks
Welcome aboard aussiebob. Thanks for the data, is that MP5 is HK or clone? ???
Another fellow had some issues using the higher power loadings from his clone which had a lack some case support. At the lower levels like what you listed he was OK.
I start some of my load testing at 1.260" but always work them back down the 1.250" for final loadings to function in all of my guns reliably...
Hope you enjoy the forum! ;D
It is a clone.
1.250" - 1.255" seems to feed into the pistol just fine.
I am getting another set of loads ready for accuracy and chrono testing.
Will post results.
I have a whole lot of once fired brass to load (approx 5000) . I am finally near the end of my last bulk buy loads.
The brass is a mix of headstamps. Starline, Winchester, others. Plus approx 2000 double tap nickel plated cases.
Anyone have a subsonic load for 165gr jacketed FMJFP bullet as I have some 125gr frangible bullets that I want to try when I get the suppressor for the MP5-10?
thanks

Can't wait. Welcome to the forum! 8)
Last night I finished prepping three hundred more cases.
Cleaned, sized, necks flaired, primer pockets cleaned/uniformed, flash holes deburred, and fineally cases primed.
I'm thinking these will be mostly my cast 200 T/C bullet. With 50 more 200g XTP heavy loads.
I have been doing well with 231 and the Lyman 200g bullet I cast pretty hard.
The weather folks are for sating some bad weather for today thru sat AM. That means I will not be going home for a couple days so no loading for me till Sunday at the earliest.

Nothing like having stuff prepared ahead of time! 8) I always keep some empty but prepped brass to test new bullets or loads with. ;D

Amen!
All types of powder go through my old Pact scale/dispenser!
Loaded up an additional 150 tonight... 100 W/200g LEAD with 231 and 50 more W/Longshot and 200XTP loads...
Thats about 750 loaded... couple hundred more and ill be good for a while....

Getting ready to do some loading
Some cleaned and primed once fired cases.

Getting ready to prime some more cleaned cases.
These plus the primed represent approx half of my 10mm cases.
Probably another bag of brass and three bags of nickel plated.

I don't like to list loads as I truly hate to hear some one was hurt taking my load verbatim... This load has proven safe in my Delta and my G20 with the KKM barrel...
Win LP primer, 6 grains of Win 231 powder, and my 200g cast Lyman bullets.
PLEASE check and work up to any loads as its unknown if these will be safe in other guns.

I'm out of town and can't remember the exact recipe I'm using right now. I know I've made them with Unique, HP-38, and I believe 2400.
In the old days I probably would have tried Blue Dot.
