Title: Winchester Model 67 (1934 to 1963) is it safe to shoot
Post by: Kenk on September 29 2018 10:22:28 AM MDT
I received my first rimfire rifle at ten from my dad, a Winchester Model 67 single-shot, bolt-action .22, as for its condition, it appears that it would be fine to shoot .22 shorts, as .22 LR's hang up, and do not eject property as I remember. Any thoughts on the safety of shooting this rifle? Being such a weeny cartridge, I can't imagine it would be a problem
Thanks

Ken

Sounds like it needs a thorough cleaning!  I have seen where soot and carbon fouling from shorter cartridges can hamper the feeding of the longer ones, they create a crud ring at the end of the casing's mouth.  If you jamb a longer casing into the crud it can get stuck.  Be careful with these rim fire cartridges as if the rims get damaged they may discharge unexpectedly!

Great point about any crud buildup. It looks fine from my visual inspection, but that doesn't really mean much, Thanks Shadow

Thanks again Shadow, I gave the Model 67 a serious cleaning and the LR's now eject without an issue. It's actually a pretty cool old rifle, not to mention, it put a gazilion rabbit's on the table when I was a kid 😊

I have a model 67 as well.  It is one of my favorite rifles.  It is a complete tack driver, and is pretty much stock.

It complements my Benjamin Franklin Model 342 BB gun from the late 60's as well, it was a pretty amazing multi pump BB gun for its day

I have a 67A which is the youth model. It's a fun little rifle and one of my favorites.
