Title: G2
Post by: will965 on September 22 2018 01:22:42 PM MDT
Gang,

We recently tested some of the new gold dot G2 in 9mm and 45. I gotta say that is on helluva bullet...so my mind naturally slides to 10mm,lol...147g to light, 230 too heavy. Maybe the 40 cal G2 180 grain bonded bullets.....oh baby, potential. Or no? Just a late night thought, not like we can get the bullets anyway.

Been begging Speer to make the NEW 200 Gold Dots available for handloading components!
G2's were regular Gold Dots with a poly plug in the HP cavity to aid in it not plugging up with barrier materials.

They're not the exact same bullet, but similar. Different cavity size and the exterior has a band cut out around it and little skive lines. They expand with different traits too. But despite Speer tweaking them a bit after the first batch performed dismally, they haven't really gained a ton of popularity. They tend to do worse than the original Gold Dot in the same weight/caliber through the laminated auto glass test, while performing a little more uniform in the softer barriers. Some agencies that adopted them without ever testing them have since switched back to regular gold dots.

147 G2 top, 147 Original on bottom

I disagree. We tested them against the hst and the older gold dots. It actually  performed very well besting the other loads in peretration and expansion .the speer rep was none to pleased and shocked at the results especially the pent ration through vehicle glass and body

The Speer rep was not pleased that a Speer product performed well? I've never seen the G2 perform as well as the 124+P Gold Dot in auto glass, but I'm sure lot to lot variations and such can change that. FBI has opted not to renew their G2 contract and are dropping it.

From everything I have seen this "new" bullet does not perform as well as the old gold dot.

Shadow, Speer told me it's not out of the question that we will get the 200'a as components.

The 124 +P Gold Dot is one of the best performing hollow points EVER . Not just in 9mm.
