Title: Liberty Halo Point .40
Post by: Intercooler on February 19 2013 04:31:18 PM MST

Is this just basically a Barnes all copper? 60gr in a 10mm would be smoking!  :o

Someone buy some and pull the bullets for a test run  :D

I'm not decided on what I think about the load.  Definitely interesting though.

Can you say 3000 fps in 10mm from a 6"barrel?

The velocity is really irrelevant after a dozen or so yards.  At 60 grains, the atmosphere might as well be Spectra, with that sectional density.  Outside the distance across a residential room (which is it's core design), it's essentially useless.  3,000 FPS?  Sure, about as far as you can spit.  Probably very effective within its design, but not worth its weight, outside of that. Faster, in this case, would probably be counter-productive. Add some winter clothing, and it's probably not much of a stopper, let alone a lethal factor.  Safety slugs and the like will do better as a defensive round.  It interesting, though.

Yeah, I would really like to see what it does when faced with some denim before the gel.

Yeah, I would really like to see what it does when faced with some denim before the gel.

From the manufacturer:  "The denim cloth test created a starburst effect, almost 8 inches in height and 6 inches in diameter."

This was in the description for the .45ACP.  The other calibers didn't mention any denim testing.  No mention of any of them being tested on/through any hard targets or barriers.

"Starburst effect", to me, means splat.  Maximum fragmentation, minimal penetration.  They claim their 5.56x45 will penetrate IIIA armor at 100 meters, but it's a segmented-solid bullet.  Off-the-shelf .223's will do that, out to several hundred meters, with effective penetration.

They did some testing on pork (just the meat, no skin or other barrier) with the .45.  It wasn't very definitive, IMO.  Not very impressive either, other than demonstrating very, very quick fragmentation.

In any case, at $1.50/round, it isn't likely I'll be doing any testing with them.  The ballistics don't add up to "effective", for any needs I may have.  There are some favorable "product reviews".  Seems it's low(er) recoil, sounds cool, and very effective at accurately killing paper out to 25 ft.

Interesting little round, we need to pull-down see what's inside!  8)

Dude....You need help. Find a support group. Take the cure, or something.

Yeah...About what I would expect given the bullet weight, associated sectional density and high velocity.  And for the price, I will either hope someone else springs for a dissection or live without the knowledge.
