I finally scored a 1076 10mm off of Armslist. It came with the original box, manual, and 4 magazines.
I'll be calling S&W tomorrow to request the letter to see if it is an FBI issued one.
I'll post pictures next week when it comes in.
As far as price, it was on par I suppose with others. $800 shipped and transferred. Not cheap but not as bad as some. From the pic and description it looks like the finish is in very good condition.
Congrats.........lets see some photos. ;D
Not bad at all considering the current climate. I scored a 1026 back in Oct. for $450 at my local shop (no box, 1 mag). I am sure you will love the 1076. Now go to Underwood ammo's website and grab some of the 180grain loads that are in stock if you don't reload.
I seem to recall the FBI ones would fire with the magazine removed and were stamped with such a warning, but not all of them were stamped even though all would fire without a magazine.
Also, most of them had a serial number starting with TFS35----, and they had cross-checkering on the front strap rather than just vertical lines.
You are correct, the only way to be sure is to get a letter, but a confluence of these attributes can strongly indicate.
I plan on carrying it with either Atomic GDHP 180's or Underwood GDHP 165's until the Underwood GDHP 180's are back in stock at Underwood. I'm not big on the XTP's they are good I just favor the Gold Dots.
YES!!! I just spoke to Smith & Wesson when it came back in for the recall (there was a 1076 recall in the early 90s) it came from the FBI. So it is an FBI issued pistol. I'll be sending out for the History letter today.
Wow....even better deal.
Look what came today. It looks like it has barely been used.
