Title: BVAC/CTD $40 a box
Post by: Intercooler on January 13 2013 08:57:16 AM MST
Wonder when this crap will settle down. CTD will never get another dime from me... not that I ordered much from them before. This is nuts: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/AMM-583

It's like that for much of everything. I am glad I did some stocking before all this hit which will last me through next year just fine. Can't find one of the two 22LR models I want anywhere and ammo is at crazy prices.  :o

That is double what BVAC cost a year or so ago when you could buy direct.  What a rip off.

Yeah I bought a box of Atomic for about 39.00 at Atomic's site the other day just before they sold all of their stock to CTD. I just looked and noticed CTD lists the same box for 69.19. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/AMM-571

I really don't understand the 2x the price on these ammos. Hopefully nobody is buying it and people will long remember CTD's soakings.

Not this boy! I would buy reload equipment long before spending $69 on a single box of ammo.

Even if you reload...What if you carry and take to heart the opinion of many that you shouldn't carry reloads?  So, 50 rounds of JHP for carry, plus another 300 rounds of the same ammo to make sure it runs right in your gun.  Every year since you should rotate carry ammo.

Pretty soon you are spending $500 a year on ammo just for carry.

I think last time I ordered this was the 500 round loose pack for 160,  ordered 3 so I would have some brass  to reload.    That was over year ago .   No way I would bay 40-50 for a box of this ammo.

Like I said, BVAC was a great deal until they contracted with CTD.  Now they give me a nose bleed.  If you lived in the west you could call them and have them pack your order to the local gun show and avoid shipping.  Pretty sure that option is gone too.

I've heard that argument over and over, and used to agree with it.  Last gun show I was at, there was a guy with a table selling bags of "self defense ammo" at really good prices, seems plausible that I just bought a few hundred from him.  Just sayin'.

I didn't say I took that advice to heart. :P

I carry my reloads.  Not sure how you could prove that Underwood or Buffalo Bore, which are both loaded in new startline brass using off the shelf powders, were not loaded by a handloader.  So, it is far more academic than pragmatic today.
