Title: Dings and other on once fired brass for reloading 10mm loads
Post by: Kenk on September 05 2018 04:43:49 PM MDT
Hey Folks,
Until lately, a high percentage of my 10mm brass would disappear in the weeds at my friends farm, regardless of tarps and the like. So now, I've joined an indoor range, allowing me to gather aprx 75 - 90% of my brass, the only problem is, how bad can the brass get banged up hitting lane dividers / other items before they come to rest on the floor? I realize brass with pressure issues is a different critter, and am not addressing that at this point, plus I load very few nuclear loads
Thanks

Ken

Size and expand to see what if any thing is left as most stuff may iron out...

your resizing die will straighten out most any ding.

My DE leaves little dents that looks like they were made from a knife edge. Resizing won't take those out, but they make no difference in the usability of the brass. Larger dents, like stepping on a case, or hitting a lane divider will almost always pop out during sizing. Previous posters are absolutely correct ;)

Dented case mouths can almost always be sorted out by the sizing die.   Exception is if there is a crease in the dent, I scrap that case out.   A hand chamfering tool takes out any roughness on a mouth caused by hitting the concrete.
