Went in for some quick meds and took a look at the gun section:
- 3 shotguns in the case. 4 rifles in the case.
- No pistol ammo, very little rifle and some shotgun shells.
- I wanted to order myself a #1102 10/22 but have to wait until tomorrow. I was told it is 3-4 month wait even if I get ordered. The price is $289 through them if I can get an order placed.
So the grabbers are still sucking it all up!
Expect this till a conclusion on the whole matter.
Yeah cleaned out here except for odd stuff like .243 Winchester. Handgun stuff is gone. I checked Bass Pro and they are getting very thin. 10mm is still OK but Bass Pro only carries Remington 180 gr MC.
I just don't get it. The most generic google search shows there aren't the votes in the house to pass an AWB. This is pure panic for the sake of panic.
To make matters worse, I checked Cheaper Than Dirt today and they are selling 50 rounds of Wolf 9mm for $20!!!
Hopefully they won't sell many of these and the Ruskies won't realize that us dumb americans panic every time a mouse farts.
Went today again. Check it out:

Basically a little rifle and shotgun. Not even a box of .22LR!
The guy I know that works there had a Marlin 60 Stainless thrown in the back. He brought it out for me and I filled out the papers. Not exactly the 10/22 I wanted but sweet and then... they said I was delayed. So now I have to wait 1-3 days. It won't be the 25 capacity of a 10/22 but holds 14, heavier and better barrel and I saw videos saying more accurate due to those things.

Found this picture. Comes with a matching scope.
I have three model 60's. One I have had for about 30 years and it was OLD when I got it. Great guns. Not as sexy as the 10/22, but nothing wrong with them at all.
No 10/22's to be found. Actually I did find a Standard Carbine at Dick's.
Let me ask you a question then. This one is 227 and the Sporter 10/22 is 303 if I can order it. The features and 25 round mags worth it over this one? Majority says the 60 is more accurate.
The only complaint I have with the model 60 is training new shooters with it.
You teach them to respect the muzzle and never cover anything with the muzzle that you aren't willing to shoot. Then I hand them a model 60. It is really hard to withdraw the loading tube without getting your hand in front of the muzzle.
Mine are very accurate. The first one I received in 82 or 83 as a gift from a family friend. It was a very old Glenfield, probably made in the 60's. I don't think it had ever been cleaned. In fact it was several years before I cleaned it enough to discover the action block was chromed. I thought it was plastic as it was literally caked with wax and carbon build up from 10's of thousands of rounds of 22 lr. Never jammed or failed to cycle though.
My daughter used it to pass off the shooting portion of hunter safety about two years ago.
Waiting on a GSG44 22lr from Buds.Monday nite I placed order,locked in at 400.00.Another hour later,price went to 630.00.Hour later,sold out.
Which is the better piece?
I picked it up today. Can't wait to shoot it but first time out I'm going without a scope to see what I can do. Probably a few weeks until the weather gets good enough for any trials. It's really growing on me even though it will never be a 25 capacity!

The Marlin 60 and 70 series rifles are definitely more accurate than a stock 10/22, although the 10/22 has a better action that is more reliable and easier to make it cycle subsonics, if you want to use a suppressor. I mostly prefer the marlins overall for their accuracy, but they do need more frequent cleaning in the action, and/or keep them well oiled once they get a little dirty.
A big part of the accuracy difference is the barrel attachment to the receiver. Marlin barrels are press fit and pinned, Ruger 10/22's are a loose slip fit with a clamp block. I've thought about machining a Marlin barrel for a press fit in a Ruger 10/22 action, seems like it might be the best of both.
Also the longer barrels on the Marlins tend to be quieter with most ammo.
I debated the choice but think this will be a nice piece. Through the family discount special ;D I think next order I will get an upgraded Weaver scope.
Also one of these speed loaders to make it a real dream 120 rounds quickly:

I have a speed-D-loader and it does in deed work well... ;D

Good first hand account is good to know.
The speed loader arrived yesterday and I must say it makes putting 15 in a couple of seconds task. Way better than loading a mag up, so I'm really happy with going with the Marlin 60.
Finally took it today. I really like it and glad I got this one instead of the 10/22. The Spee-d-loader made putting 15 in it a breeze and much cheaper than buying 8 mags.
First 100 or so shots ever and I wasn't trying real hard at 25 yards:

Lower target next 100 or so:

Some additional garbage groupings I did:

GOOD JOB I.C..... I ALWAYS bring a 22 or three to the range. NOTHING like burning holes in targets!!

Thanks. Only problem is. 22LR is so scarce it will probably be a while until I test out the new scope that arrives today.

I just don't get it. The most generic google search shows there aren't the votes in the house to pass an AWB. This is pure panic for the sake of panic.
It happened when Obummer first got elected. too, It not only caused panic buying of guns and ammo, it caused a huge run on reloading supplies. Primers? All but the most expensive ones unavailable. Highly used powders? Non existent. Already seeing them to list all their primers out of stock. Powder Valley is feeling the pinch.
A LOT of gun stores are only selling little lots so that more people can get the stuff. They won't sell you 5000 primers, only 1000. for instance. Limits on boxes of ammo. Can buy 2 boxes, not ten.
No .22LR to be found anywhere. That's amazing but little else either.
Shockingly 10mm is turning up though. In times of little the less popular calibers you can get :o
Locally here nothing but a box of Win 300 Mag and very few assorted shotgun shells... ???
In again today and the shelves look just the same as a couple of months ago. Nothing there!
You think the Government order of 1.6 Billion rounds is pushing normal ammo to the bottom of the production heap?
Yeah. Since when should the government come before The People? So much for a government "of the People".
I was at our local WM a few days ago. Surprised, but they had a fairly good supply of ammo. Mostly 12 and 20 ga, 410, and a lot of common rifle. None that I needed, but plenty of .30-06, .243, .270, .30M1, Magnum rifle and pistol. No .22 LR's, 9mm, .40's of course, but did have a few others. LGS has a really healthy supply, but he's rationing. His words, "I have to support my locals, and how can I sell guns if I have no ammo to go with them"? Makes sense, to me. He's getting a trickle of orders filled, but he's getting some.
I'm going "hunting" Friday. Gonna try a couple GS no normally visited as well as a trip to cabelas... Only looking for primers and 22Mag rimfire.
I reload all my CF stuff. Haven't bought factory ammonia in over twenty years. Sans RF, 12 ga and occasional CCW stuff.
CW
I am done buying CCW stuff too. Heck, everyone I buy CCW stuff from loads in Starline brass using off the shelf powders. Not sure how anyone could prove which came out of the Buffalo Bore or Underwood box and which came from my press.
And with cast bullets, much of my reloads are cheaper than rimfire. Once I figure out some gallery loads for my Mosin Nagants for the kids to shoot, I won't have a lot of use for a 22 anymore.

Try cast bullets and trail boss powder... :) ;D

Haven't ever played with trail boss but have read really good things. There are a number of loads over at cast boolits for 7.62X54R with Unique, trail boss, etc. I will let you guys know once I get some time to play with them.
Yes friends it's beyond crazy. I guess I lucked out getting the last .22 that I have seen at WalMart since.
I put this on watch to see where it ended. This is my exact same Marlin I paid $227 with tax for!

:o :o :o
That's crazy, on top of crazy. I have a model 60. Paid 39 bucks and change for it new, but that was a long time ago. Western Auto, I think. It's an ugly POS now, but still shoots straight. The new models aren't worth $200, let alone what they are really selling (stealing) for. Anyone willing to pay that is probably getting exactly what they deserve. I recently picked up a Mossberg "M4" .22LR (actually a 715 series, with M4 style furniture) at a distant Walmart. Less than $200. A friend bought the remainder of their stock. It shoots very well and accurate.
True. I like my Marlin but if it was over $250 I would have passed. The Browning version with the finish and all my be worth that kind of loot. 10-22's are going for more which is real crazy too!
I got all three of my marlins for $20 each at different times. Usually it was friends selling, but one was at a yard sale. Of course, that was the 80's and early 90's.

Yeah, think I got mine at K-Mart at about that price. Yeah, K-Marts were just starting up. They used to be Kresge's department stores. That's where the K in K-mart came from. I was around when they were just changing over. As a matter of fact, I bought something at a store still opened and named Kresge's, but returned it to another store named K-Mart.

About 20 years back I bought a very nice 336T from my down stairs neighbor... He was a carouser and drinker, well one night came home drunk and parked his car in the middle of the driveway... only I couldn't get around him and could not park on the street. I parked behind him. About 2AM he came too and decided he needed to go get something.... Only I was behind him. I saw/herd the hootin' and hollerin' and decided it was better not to create more of a problem dealing with him when drunk. :o :o :o
Well the next day, after work he came knocking at my door... hat in hand apologizing. He was very sorry for carrying on and realized (after his wife laid into him) the error of his ways and don't ya know brought a rifle to sell me.. See he scared the hell outta him when in his fit of anger remembered he had that rifle and thought about loading it and doing something.. He scared himself and wanted to remove that temptation. He only wanted 15$ enough for a good drunk... I obliged. ;)

A guy in my neighborhood started a new job and got chummy with a cube mate. Ended up picking up a Marlin 30-30 and a Winchester Model 70 in 270 from him. Got the pair for $250 about 6 months ago.
Wish I couple meet deals like that.
Wal-Mart still bare except for a few Shotgun shells. :(
Stopped in at the Bass Pro Shop in Denham Springs near Baton Rouge, there was not any powders or primers period! There were no pistol bullets to be had either. :o
They did have some shotgun shells and various rifle rounds, pistol stuff almost none... :(
There was a few varieties of muzzle loader powders but No primers... :(
Good thing I didn't have to have anything right away! :D
Like I said, I reload....but the panic buying is also making the reloading supplies short as people are hoarding them, too!
