Does anyone have one? I am wondering how it works for both 40S&W and 10MM. No lectures please LOL I am aware of the history the dimensions is why I asked the question the 10MM is longer than the 40S&W. So how does it measure length and of both.
Have a 10mm gauge... the 40 would to short to see if proper length. ( where the 10mm would pop out if to long on flat surface )
Mine is the Lyman 10mm cartridge gauge, you stand it on end, on a flat surface. If your bullet is seated too long the cartridge will stick above the machined notch on the entrance or the entire gauge. The 10mm is 1.2600" as the long fit. If checking a 40S&W casing the length difference will not be useable unless you place a 1/8" thick piece of something that fits inside the opening as a spacer for Cartridge length to work out at 1.135"
1.2600" - 1.1350" = 0.125" or 1/8"

If the casing is not sized enough it will not fit all the way inside the gauge either. This is my primary purpose as I don't have to take any barrels out of my guns to do the "Plunk Test". The Case Gauge is tighter than most any barrel chamber. I check 10mm, 40S&W, 357Sig and 9x25 Dillon casings for sizing fit with it.

Total length of the gauge is 1.2600" and 1.2500" inside the machined notch.

But the gage he is asking about says it will do both .40 and 10. One gage that will work on both? I'm not sure how that would work.
Maybe it's long enough to use each end??

The confusion is coming from lots of different places advertising the Hornady gauge 380704 as working for both 10mm and 40 S&W. I guess an argument could be made that depending on how you read the case, this may be true.
But a 10mm cartridge is going to sit 0.142" proud of this gauge. I have asked Hornady to comment on if this is how they intend the gauge to be used. If so, I would suggest you skip their product and get a gauge that is correctly machined for 10mm only.
I called Hornady today and I hope I do not get the guy in trouble well I will not mention his name. He said he knows what the website says and gave me the advice that I should skip this product. He said it is not intended to be used that way. The only gauges I have ever bought is rifle from Sheridan Engineering awesome gauges. I was trying to skimp out on the pistol gauge LOL but I bit the bullet tonight and ordered one (http://www.sheridanengineering.com/images/SG10MM_1.jpg)
