Title: CZ 97 Bartso Barrel in 10mm
Post by: Scarlett Pistol on July 06 2018 03:36:46 PM MDT
Over on the CZ forum someone mentioned that Barto is working on a threaded barrel for the CZ 97. That sparked my interest and I emailed them about a threaded barrel for the CZ 97 in 10mm.

They responded and told me to follow up late in the summer. They said they were aware of demand for trying a 10mm conversion barrel for the CZ 97. So hopefully they are willing to do it. If so I'll buy a CZ 97 and one of their barrels and immediately undergo testing!

If anyone else is interested I'm sure it would help to let Barsto know the demand exists.

maybe someone here could organize a group buy possibly for the barrels and the CZ97's as well?

What mags would you use to feed it?

I've read that the large frame mags from mecgar for Tabfoglio Witnesses work. There's definitely be some testing involved though.

If I owned a CZ 97 I might be inclined to try out a mecgar or Tanfoglio mag first to make sure it fits. Perhaps someone here can confirm that for you.

I've read a few different report that they do on the CZ Forum but I'd be super appreciative if anyone here could confirm it as well.

I remember Bruce Gray having to weld in some spacers on the breech face on Sig 220s' in .45 to convert them to 10MM before Sig started to offer the 220 in 10MM. Don't know if the CZ97 would work without doing this, but I'd check it out before getting a barrel.

Heavier springs might be another thing to consider.

I tried my EAA Stock 3 14 round 10mm mags in my CZ97 and it fits just fine. Inserts and is held in place just fine, mag release works and the slide locks back on an empty mag.

Years ago I submitted my brand new Sig Sauer Stainless Elite P220 for that conversion. I talked to Bruce on the phone and he advised me that the Sig Sauer frame wasn't meant to handle regular 10mm (unlike the downloaded 10mm rounds from Federal and other cartridge manufacturers that were essentially .40 S&W equivalents) loads like I was planning on using all the time. He advised that would wear it out a lot quicker than using the lower power off the shelf 10mm rounds. I ended up selling off that pistol after I got it back because I had no intention of shooting low power 10mm rounds. I ended up buying a NHC 1911 that was specifically chambered for 10mm. I don't trust these conversions of pistols that weren't meant to handle the much higher chamber pressures of full 10mm rounds.

The guys at CGW advised me to NOT use that kind of power level in the CZ97b. This was a few years ago, and at the time I was inquiring about running 45-Super in the gun, since there was/is no 10mm conversion. It was suggested to stick to .45acp+p or less...

I plan on ordering a 10mm Stock-III in the next couple days to "fix" my itch! ;)

Ha, I've read that old thread a few times. When I asked Barsto I specifically asked about a threaded barrel because I'd reading your posts. I'd get a comp on it to help mitigate that potential issue. BUT I have been eyeing the Stock III. I desperately miss having a 10mm!!!

My Stock-III is due to arrive at the FFL/LGS on Monday, which is my birthday coincidentally... ;) :D And a few goodies from Henning shipped out yesterday as well, so I'm looking forward to getting behind it shortly there after!
