Title: KKM barrel
Post by: Goetztalon on June 02 2018 03:41:22 PM MDT
Ordered a six inch kkm barrel for the Glock 20 yesterday. Now I will be legal for Ohio's five inch minimum barrel length to use a hand gun for deer. Anybody have any opinion s on the kkm? Did some online research and it seems to be a decent barrel.

I have a KKM in my Dan Wesson and it will do less than one inch groups at 50 yards (from a ransom rest.)  Enjoy your new barrel.

Hey Goetztalon,
I picked up a factory length KKM barrel for my gen 4 G20 and really like it. Not only can I shoot cast, I also find  that it is more accurate than the factory barrel. I know several people  that went with Lonewolf, and have not had any issues, yet when researching them prior to buying, many complained about issues with LW, so I just went with KKM. There are others that are substantially more expensive, but didn't feel the need to spend that much

That was my findings as well kenk. And as you I looked at the higher end stuff. Plus it looked like the more expensive barrels needed to be fitted. Can't wait to shoot my handloads through it!

They are good barrels.  Put one in my G40 a couple months ago.  Better velocity and accuracy.  You made a good choice.

If I'm not mistaken, the 6" should translate into an increased velocity of  aprx 100 FPS, give or take

I use a 6 inch KKM in my G40. Swapped the barrel from my G20 when I sold it to a co-worker. It's accurate and easy to clean. The chamber is cut so it will not accept bullets sized at .402 or larger. KKM will "fix" that if you want to shoot lead bullets sized .402 or larger.

Any idea what they charge to do that?, or is that a complementary service?

I don't know if KKM does it for free or not. Another poster who frequents GlockTalk and this forum NickE10mm had his done by KKM to accomodate the .402 sized Montana Bullet Works WFNPB bullets.

I use a 6" threaded kkm for my glock 20, hunting and woods defense.  We live in Ouachita Mountains, 60 acres all sides surrounded by National Forest.  I have found you get occasional jams with the 200 - 220 cast slugs.  Running them through a sizer helps, but not 100%.  I'm talking 1 or 2 in 50 will not feed completely.  Usually you can palm the back of the slide and it will seat.  The problem usually starts after 20 or so shots and progresses.  My guess is the chamber is tight and probably gets some lube or lead build up as the shot count rises.  Not frequent, but not what I want for woods defense! Now I use Lehigh Xtreme Penetrator slugs over Longshot powder getting 700 fpe for bear defense.  Whistles through level 3 vest, right through bullet proof glass, but still disrupts tissue.  It and all jacketed or plated bullets are 100% reliable in the kkm.

Great choice I also put a 7" on my model 40 it is incredibly accurate and the velocity is on par with my Contender Carbine. You should really like this Barrel.

Barrel came today! Dropped right in with no problems. Hope the weekend isn't a complete washout so I can get to the range and try it out.

Finally made it to the range and the new barrel worked great! Tried two loads the 180 grain XTP' with 8 grains of unique and 150 grain noslers with 11.5 grains of blue dot. The empty brass looked great! No more bulge lol. I tried putting a fired case from the OEM barrel into the match chamber kkm and it only went a quarter way in. The kkm is a lot tighter in the chamber.

a huge difference to be sure, my factory length G20 KKM is amazingly accurate compared to the factory barrel
