this is fast fire (18 rounds in nine seconds) at 25 yards, the first nine shot or so are relatively on target. Then I get this weird almost vertical stringing. I am thinking it is some small error that gets magnified each time. Thank you for any help with this.

First, that's not bad shooting for rapid fire at 25yds. If you are right handed, it looks like your trigger finger is slipping further onto the trigger, hence the slight pull to the right. Also guessing this was shot from a polymer 9mm? 18rnds? You could be shooting a little quicker as the gun is settling back down from the recoil of the previous shot. The weight and balance of the gun is also changing quite a bit as you get closer to an empty mag.
I have an M&P 9 that is pretty evenly balanced, maybe a little rear heavy, with a full mag. It gets very front heavy on the last few rounds. You could try it with a 1/2 full mag a couple of times and see what you get.

Well that is a little different gun than I assumed, now isn't it. The vertical rise is probably just the usual desire, when shooting quickly, to speed up.

Graybeard has made a good prognoses of your string of shots, I'd probably add that your grip could also be changing slightly as you continue to shoot as a result of the recoil/recovery. Also this being a 10mm, blast and concussion as such may be affecting your sight in small ways. Shooting googles as apposed to glasses might keep the felt blast from your eyes. All in all not bad shooting at all Bunny!
Strength training exercises for fingers, wrist and arms could help improve your situation...

Graybeard has hit the most probable cause, the human factor.
In the small chance that isn't it, next cause on the list would be heat. 18 shots that fast gonna heat things up pretty good, and a semi-auto pistol is not free float. Lots of things pushing on the barrel, and heat means expansion and dimensional change.

Focused on trigger control and maintaining a steady grip and came away with better groupings, thank you gentlemen. That three shot group in the upper left still concerns me.

Anything I can think of needing shooting would be pretty discouraged (unless that big ol Titan Elite is your choice of squirrel gun :D)
