Title: Touching up area on a steel pistol
Post by: Kenk on May 08 2018 05:23:49 AM MDT
Thoughts on a touch-up material  for a steel pistol ? I'm not so concerned about how it looks as I am about keeping it protected from possible rust
Thanks

Depends on the type of finish. Blued would be a totally different answer from Ceracoat or some other finish.

Sorry, forgot to mention that part, it's a parkerized finish. My wedding ring did a number on my RIA Rock Ultra
Thanks

You can try some cold blue, but in all honesty, it will most likely be just fine.  Parkerizing makes the surface a bit porous and chances are that porosity is still there.  Just clean and lube it like normal with a good rust protector and it will be fine.

Thanks, I have seen the Cold Blue, but have not tried it.

Cold blue wont match.  the only way to match it would be to strip it down, sandblast and re-park.

Not sure if I'm gonna sweat it much, but trying to put my Rock Ultra FS into a SERPA and an old Safariland drop leg marked it up quite a bit. Not the toughest finish. I was surprised the single stack Rock is definitely a little different dimensionally (bigger/more forward) in the mag release swell/trigger guard junction area than any 45 or 40 1911 I've had.
