STI Perfect 10 or EAA Hunter
I am looking for some input on the above two guns. I have 3 S&W 610's, a 1086, a Dan Wesson Pointman 7, and, a Witness Elite Match, are my current 10mm's. I would like a 6" gun. Any input as to your preference, and why would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your input!
I'm surprised no one else has chimed in on this one. I'm admittedly not the best one to offer advise, since my only 10mm is is a 20SF, but I've shot both EAA and STI guns, though neither the Perfect 10 nor Hunter. Isn't it kind of difficult to compare an EAA to a hand-fitted STI? There's nothing wrong with an EAA, but I personally think the extra $1200 for the Perfect 10 isn't difficult to justify if you have the means. over 75% (going by memory on 2010 competitor survey) of the USPSA crowd shoot STIs in Open for a good reason. Just my opinion and will hopefully get someone with actual experience to chime in.
Nugent has a video up of him shooting a custom Perfect 10 out of the box and at 25' looks like a 3" group as I remember. Very impressive gun.
I found the Nugent link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=GmfLZ4TnW7E.
I'm gearing myself up for a Kimber Target II 10mm in the Spring, I wish I could spend the extra $1100 for the STI without looking at my kids' college accounts and feeling guilty. It is a beautiful pistol.
You could also look at the Fusion Firearms Grand Sport, that would give you a 6" barrel and a double stack mag. You can also just buy the kit and finish it out yourself. 8)
Perfect Ten all the way ! It's awesome in every way. I needed to shoot 500 rounds for it to loosen up and it's fussy on oal but such a great gun to shoot at the metallic sillywets :D
Check my other posts for pics.
Curious, what was Ted firing out of the STI?
I have the Hunter and it's hard to beat for the money.
Perfect 10, better trigger and a littler more power from 6" barrel.
I dont like the fact a few of the EAA frames have cracked either.
Sean
I can't agree with any of those statements without supporting info. What's the pull on it? You mean less take-up? How would it have any additional power? Lastly their has never been a Hunter slide failure of any type.
The hunter is a fine gun, and it is a hand fit gun as well, coming out of the Tanfoglio custom shop.
In general, I don't know that I think it is in the same league as the Perfect 10. But it also is no where near the price league of the Perfect 10. While I think the Perfect 10 is a better gun, I don't think it is twice as good, though it is better than twice the money.
For me, I would get the Hunter and spend the balance of the money learning to shoot it, and maybe having little things done like trigger work if you aren't happy with it. My Elite Match has a great trigger though, every bit as good as my 1911's.
Yes, the frame will crack right behind the magazine release. This is a non-consequential crack kinda like the early Delta Elite frame cracks. My Elite is cracked there and has been for the last couple thousand rounds. Doesn't make any difference in my mind at all.
The Hunter and other models got a factory relief cut there. They errored in not doing the Match from the factory. The STI piece isn't real pretty. :o
I prefer a 1911 trigger , by far a better trigger IMHO. STI 6" barrel will create a little more velocity than a 5" barrel unless the Hunter is 6" of course, :P. I dont keep up with anything EAA. IMHO I would not be caught DEAD with a EAA , Uuuugly and I dislike DOA triggers. I realize we all have our likes and dislikes , the EAA just happens to be on my dislike list, other than that I am sure the EAA is a fine gun ;D.
Sean
Yea it's 6". Add a flat Henning trigger. Us experts here like our EAA pieces :P
The hunter is a single action only trigger, not DA/SA or DAO. I don't think anything in the EAA line in 10mm is DAO. All the standard Witness line + the Elite Stock are DA/SA. The Match, Hunter and the race gun are SAO with uptake and over-travel adjustment. My Match, properly adjusted has about 1/16" creep free update followed by a glass rod type break at about 3.5 lbs and no over-travel at all. I assume the Hunter would be the same.
There's no question in my mind.... go to Fusion and have them build you EXACTLY what u want for lots less money and an equal or better product IMHO.
Oh, and post pics!
I decided to go with the STI Prefect 10. The most painful part is the 20 week wait, the delivery date is May 20, but that could change. It is hard for me to wait that long for a new shooter.
In the end, those patients will have paid off well! Neither decision would have been a bad one. By the same token I never hear anything but love for the STI Perfect 10. You'll be glad you waited for it!
Congrat's you will love it no doubt. Make sure you give it a good couple of hundred rounds to loosen up when you first get it. Mine was a tight as a fishes bum when I first got it.
20 week wait will give you time to acquire ammo. In that time, given the current availability, you should be able to track down 100 - 120 rounds of 10mm ammo. :P
Yeah, I had to wait about two months for my custom build Fusion Firearms 6" long slide 10mm traditional hunter.

I have 6 other 10mm guns. I have plenty of ammo to break it in. :)
