Well damn!

I just placed my order for this bad boy through a local gun range, I only put 500 down  because we couldn't see how much it's going cost yet. Cannot wait!!!

I was disappointed in the velocities shown on Jeff's testing...
I have to wonder if cutting the cylinder for 10mm Mag was culprit or if the ammo just wasn't up to potential. ???

The 1340 FPS for a 180gr? That's pretty good I think in a 4.2" barrel?

Has anyone really put a foot forward working up AutoComp loads? It works great in 9mm!

How can Ruger bang out like three 10mm's and Springfield can't deliver an XD? Makes no sense!

Because ruger cares about its customer/ or listens to them.

I'm glad to see, Ruger is finally listening to it's customers.  They used to be the last ones to offer anything new, or exciting.  The GP-100, is a much more versatile platform, than the big Super Redhawk.  The Super, would also be a good candidate for a 10mm Magnum conversion.  I wonder, as someone else mentioned, if S&W will get-woke, and offer the 610 as a re-issue?  They offer no autopistols in this caliber either, amazing.

It would be interesting to compare the revolver 10mm to a comparable length simiauto. I would be curious to see how the recoil and velocities compare.

Better yet, why can't CZ come out with one on a "97 frame?

Intercooler that 1340 fps was from 10mm Magnum not 10mm auto!  I would have expected a little more velocity, but whos to say if it was the extra cylinder cut to 10mm Mag of just the ammo and 4.2" BBL...

Springfield Armory has to deal with the XD engineers and factory being in Croatia. From my experience in dealing with SA from an agency that issued XD, XDs and Mod 2 pistols they are great at product support but slow to add new models due to the supply chain / import hassles.

Ruger has continued to develop their production abilities and investment casting tech to the point that if they think it they can make it.  I wonder if they can 3D print the wax blanks yet?   Now THAT would be cool.  8)

Ahhhh! It looks like revolvers lose a good bit and the 4.2" barrel doesn't help much.

It would be nice to see side by side velocity test of say Ruger GP100 10mm Match Champion & Glock 20 with the same ammo.
Maybe I'm expecting too much...  ::)  :-[

Got an email from Ruger last week with the announcement showing an MSRP of $959.  I'm guessing the street price will be just north of $800 after the "new" price gouging disappears.

I would like to have one but with a SW 610 4" and SRH in 5" not sure I have a need, just a want. I'm still waiting for an SRH Alaskan in 10mm  :D

Was at a Ruger product development forum last October and asked the VP present if the 10mm GP-100 was going to happen.  He said that is was going through final testing but would not be ready for the SHOT Show but would be released shortly thereafter...and here it is.

Hope to pick mine up on the 16th...

I personally think it is a mistake to rechamber the GP-100 to 10mm Magnum. You loose the ability to shoot the gun with factory ammo without clips. That and I am wondering if the very early mangling of the clips was caused by the constant flexing of the clips since the 10mm rounds would no longer double headspace on the case mouth and clip. I have had .45 ACP revolvers since the 1970s and have never had a clip go bad.  I asked three of my friends who have been shooting them just as long and two had never lost a clip and one said he only wore out a couple of 1/2 moon clips...never a full moon.   I'm also not planning on shooting .40 S&W in mine other than when I have to...like out of 10mm ammo.

..now if they will just bring this gun out in .41 Special...I'd even take a 5 shot like the .44 Special...well I can dream...

Bob

This is what I get for being out of town all the time.  Miss all the good stuff.

This is a great offering.  While I personally am not a huge fan of auto-loading cartridges in revolvers, I will look for one of these just to toss Ruger a thanks for supporting the 10mm.

I'm kind of bummed because I just bought a Super Redhawk in 10mm, then I see that Ruger makes these in a GP-100. I had heard of somebody converting these to 10mm, but I figured that would cost a bunch to convert it, and I would still need to purchase a GG-100 to do the conversion on.

I always get the word too late!  :-[  Well, I think I can load up a 10mm to much more powerful with a frame based on a .44 mag. (I reload)

Hey Gandog,  The thing about loading hotter for the heavy revolver is you would not want to get that ammo in the mix for your other 10mm firearms...  ???
Title: Re: New Ruger GP100 10mm Match Champion
Post by: Rick R on May 07 2018 04:20:44 PM MDT
Gandog,
Probably like .357 Magnum in a S&W K vs N frame. The GP will hold up to bucket loads of full bore 10mm.  The SRH will hold up to buckets than your grand children buy.

Yeah, I got that covered. I put the hot loads in a separate ammo box and labeled it "Revolver Only".

Finally thanked Ruger for listening. Could not find one local so I placed a bid for one on Gunbroker.  Ended up winning the auction @ $720.  Should be here tomorrow. Deserts are all currently closed due to fire restrictions so won't get to shoot it till it rains.

Shot mine on Saturday...shoots just great with and without the clips.

The wood grips are a little tough on the web of ones hand but I had a set of Hogue rubber that I put on yesterday.  Will be going out again soon to try it again...

The gun looks great and I can appreciate the desire to own one. The killer for me is the moon clips or punching out empties with a pencil. I would think there's a better solution. The star could grab the empties if it could be rotated just a little bit with the crane open. Something like a spring loaded cam that popped out if the cylinder was rotated backwards and allowed the star to engage the rims, or a camming action when pushing the ejector rod. It seems to me the the major issues would be not reducing the strength of the lockup and not interfering with the forward rotation of the cylinder. Admittedly, this is an incomplete thought or I'd be headed for the patent office. Has anyone else ever thought about this?

They beat you to it, and yes, they have a patent which is probably why Ruger doesn't do this.

That explains why I've never seen it. I've never paid any attention to Charter Arms :D Not since I picked up one of their lefties and the finish started flaking off the cylinder when I dry fired it a couple of times. The action felt like it had gravel in it, too. Now I need to find one and see how they made it work.

Thanks Sqlbullet.

Wasn't a fan of moon clips until I shot my Dad's S&W JM 625.  I can load it faster than my 357 with a speed loader.  The 10mm revolver acquisition was partly to fill out the collection and partly due to a desire to have a heavy duty gun for load development.  I also like to mix it up when target shooting.  If you can get good shooting a double action revolver shooting a semi-auto becomes a piece of cake.

Post by: Graybeard on May 23 2018 11:21:49 AM MDT
I've never shot a JM 625, but I have shot a 9mm J frame before. I totally get the load development aspect, as well as rounding out a collection . My 10mm DI AR was for pretty much the same reasons. Also get the desire to master DA revolvers. I have a 629 Classic I run with .44 special for that.

The ejection system I was envisioning would be one that would work with or without the moon clips. The best of both worlds.

Ran about 100 rounds through it today.. sweet shooting gun... recoil was very manageable with the 180 grn over 10.4 grns of Bluedot I was shooting. Had a good time shooting it and everyone who tried it liked it.

Put a set of the Hogue fingergroove rubber grips on and it was much more comfortable to shoot.  Hogue makes the same grips without the grooves that look like the wood ones that came on the gun...may pick up a set of those to try also..

Curious to know what you thought of the fingerless Hogue grips.  I believe they're the same ones that Ruger includes with the .44 Spcl GP100.  If so, they should do a nice job of taming the recoil.
