Title: Glock 40 and Cast Boolits
Post by: TXCOONDOG on April 08 2018 11:01:35 AM MDT
I'm ready to start on load development for the G40. My OEM barrel slugged at .401" so I'll start with the Lee .401-175TC mold. My alloy will be wheel weight (air cooled), powder coated and sized to .402" and see if I'm able to hold accuracy without leading issues.

Powders: Longshot, AA#9, Blue Dot, and Unique.
Primer: WLP
COL: 1.260" as the dummy rounds feed with no issues.

Any of you running cast out of the G40 OEM barrel ?

Well, I'll be watching for sure.
I have a KKM barrel en route so I don't have to worry about the OEM/cast issues. I know keeping the Glock barrel free of leading makes it safe with cast, though.

You should be just fine, I shoot cast lubed with Carnauba Red from the G-20SF and G-29 factory barrels sized at 0.4015", no issues.

I run that exact bullet with powdercoat out of 4 10mms and 4 40 S&w Glocks with stock barrels. In 10mm 10grains of bluedot and that bullet is a standard working load. I think its 1275 from my G40.

I mounted a Deltapoint yesterday. Monday my 20lb RSA should arrive then I will start working up loads in the G40.

In my RIA with a 6" barrel:

401-175 Lee with 8 grains of Longshot = 1210 fps (range load)
401-175 Lee with 8.5 grains of Longshot= 1255 fps (range load)

402-200 WFN custom with 8grains of Longshot = 1203 fps ( hunting)
402-200 WFN custom with 13grains of AA9 = 1300 fps (hunting)

Bought 8lbs of Blue Dot and never worked up any 10mm loads but use it for my 12gauge heavy loads.

PS: My RIA barrel chamber at the ramp is .003" tighter than my Glock 40 OEM barrel. Not sure how many reloads I'll get out of my range brass with the G40 barrel.

Got my new 20lb RSA today and went to the range.

No leading to speak of. However, started to see case bulge at 7.5 grains of Longshot with WLP primer using both 175 gr and 200 grain cast boolits.  Got up to 8grains (8.2 is max for 200 gr) with no smiles but the bulge was very present.

Asboutely, no failures to feed and I have to admit, Glocks barrel held 1-1.5" groups at 25 yards (bench resting).

PS: The Deltapoint was a great buy and highly recommend to anyone.
