What kind of powder do you folks find to produce accurate .45 auto FMJ loads? Seems like I used to use Bullseye in the past, but that was a number of years ago. These will be used in a factory G30
Thanks
Ken
Bullseye is a mainstay with many 45ACP shooters, I have used Red Dot, Blue Dot, Power Pistol and more recently been using Alliant BE-86.
Allaint shows some good data on their site.
Longshot, 800X and AA#7 will work too.
Thanks, How do you like the BE-86? I have some of that also
I does a good job, clean and flash suppressed too...Alliant has standard and +P data for it...
Nice, Thanks man!
I use Unique most of the time, but currently using AutoComp due to the fact I purchased a couple large jugs.
Both work good for range work with 230 gr heads
So Shadow, on Alliant's .45 ACP + P BE-86 load data, it only gives one charge amount (6.9) is this their recommendation for a max load? no min / max data available
Thanks
From what I have seen with BE-86 the data is a little conservative. You can do a comparison between the standard pressure and +P data.
This conservative data was also noted in the 10mm uses as well as we saw in the Pull-Downs of the Sig ammo.

Well put. The 45 acp will run well on all sorts of powder. Been reloading for it for over 45 years. I currently use Power Pistol but that is only because I burn it it other cartridges. Without actually knowing absolutely I would judge the best powders are in the burning range of Bullseye and Red Dot. Power Pistol is closer to Unique. Both work well but I believe the closer your are to Bullseye in burning rate, the better.

Spudmeister, that's the thing both Power Pistol and BE-86 are derivatives of Bullseye powder.
Power Pistol when it first came about was BE-84 and well BE-86 is also a modified Bullseye.
I still haven't gotten where the older Dupont #5 pistol powder came from or if it was in fact Bullseye or Power Pistol...still trying to find that info. But Dupont #5 seems to be a thicker flake than the Bullseye and may have been the first Power Pistol powder.
Back when Bullseye shooters shot "Hardball" matches, the popular powders were, Bullseye, (of course) Red Dot, 700X and the old WW452AA (now updated as WST)
Personally, I like WST when accuracy is desired more than velocity. I wish Hodgdon would update and expand their data for WST as I have found it useful in any application where you could use Bullseye.

For my 45's, I shoot HS6 for accuracy with a 200 gr bullet seated at max OAL. The round functions great, groups of 3/4" are norm from bags. I have loads that are also accurate but not that accurate using Alliant Unique and Power Pistol. In my reloading the 45 ACP, it seems like the round is more sensitive to OAL than others. I'd suggest finding a decent load and then play with the OAL. My 45s like it long.
Thanks folks!

I use Winchester 231, 5.3 grains under a my cast 230 grain. It's been spot on from my and G36, both Glocks sport Lonewolf barrels.
I have had good results using Accurate Solo-1000 and Lee 200gr SWC bullets. I use small primer brass.

Accurate Solo 1000 is a fast burning, single-base, flake shotgun powder. Solo 1000 was the pioneer in the clean burning revolution and is an excellent choice for trap, sporting clays, and skeet shooting. Solo 1000 is an ultra clean burning powder that is well suited for target handgun loads in 45 ACP and Cowboy Action cartridges. Made in Spain.

Thanks!
4.8gr of BullsEye under a Berry's 185gr HBRN has a proved to be a very soft shooting and accurate load from my 1911s. Your Glock is a little different animal, but I bet you could work up a good load with BullsEye. There's a reason it's been around so long and still popular. It usually meters within .1gr out of my progressive press as well. Easy to make really accurate range ammo.
Thanks Graybeard
Bullseye is a good powder for 45ACP but I have pushed the 45's with all of the same powders for 10mm. BE-86 has many great uses in the 45 with various bullet weights and styles.
Here is Alliant's 45ACP +P
185 Grain JHP
Minimum OAL(inches) 1.210"
Bbl Length 5"
Primer Fed 150
Powder Charge Weight(grains)BE-86 8.8
Velocity(fps) 1,152
230 Grain FMJ
Minimum OAL(inches) 1.265"
Bbl Length 5"
Primer Fed 150
Powder Charge Weight(grains)BE-86 7.4
Velocity(fps) 977
230 Grain JHP
Minimum OAL(inches) 1.210"
Bbl Length 5"
Primer Fed 150
Powder Charge Weight(grains)BE-86 6.9
Velocity(fps) 935
And I have some on hand, Thanks!
5.0 of 231 with a 230 cast round nose with a cci 300 is a great load!
Thanks Goetztalon
For decades I used Bullseye, 5 grains behind a 230 grain LRN. Lately I've been using Accurate Arms #5 in .45 (and 9mm as well). AA5 burns cleaner than comparable Bullseye loads.
Unique will work fine but doesn't burn as completely as AA5 or Bullseye.
AA5 for me. Pushing 230 grain round nose hardcast, it's more accurate than I am.
