Title: Striker fire 10 mm Question
Post by: Tomcat 10 on February 21 2018 05:37:40 PM MST
Is Glock the only striker fire 10 mm ?  Does anyone besides Glock make a striker fire 10 mm ?

I can't think of any other striker fired 10mm guns besides Glock.

No XD or M&P 10mm pistols.

S&W only really chases HUGE market segments or LE sales.  10mm isn't either of those.  Not sure we would have ever seen the 10XX guns if it weren't for the FBI interest.  So, with no LE contract and only a niche market segment you wont see a M&P.

Springfield keeps promising a 10mm XD.  It will take a fair amount of R&D work to produce one. I think they have other places to get a higher return on that investment.  They keep teasing....

And most of the other striker players are focusing on winning LE contracts.  And 10mm doesn't really play there right now.

I think Glock saved the 10mm. It allowed people to buy a reliable low-cost gun. I think the Colt and S&W pistols had problems. Bren 10 was expensive.

I have no real practical evidence for this assertion, but... I'm inclined to think Ruger will be the next to produce a 10mm striker fired pistol; perhaps as part of the Security 9 line as a Security 10 (realized later that these are hammer fired... though, they do have many of the same design elements as striker fired pistols). They've been going a bit hog wild with their 10mm revolvers of late.

I don't know if Glock was the reason, but now everybody seems to be making a 10mm now. SIG, Remington, RIA, Kimber. Dan Wesson made them before, then stopped, now they are making them again. Colt is making the Delta Elite again. I just got a Tanfoglio. (Even though they have made them for a while) Heck, I even got a TNW Aero survival rifle in 10mm. Some idiots at VLTOR were saying they were even going to make Bren 10's again, although that seems to have fallen down a black hole.
