Thank you for the link.  I don't know if the shooters precision or keeping the bullet stable in flight for 3 miles is the greater feat.  Certainly you have to have both.  IME.... a remarkable feat!

I think my melted DT hardcasts that soar through the air 1300 FPS are guaranteed to accomplish 3 mile hits.

My gun club has been doing an impromptu, very casual, LR steel shoot on Wednesday afternoons. We shut access off to one set of rifle ranges, thereby adding 550 yds to the berms. We can shoot steel from 575 out to 1260 yds.
I got interested in it 4 years back and my trek through the LR world has been both  educational as well as expensive.

One HAS to have the right tools for the job, an accurate rifle in a chambering that's LR oriented. Good glass both on the rifle as well as for Your spotter, and a knowledge of ballistics and how weather affects yourbullets.

Basically no matter what You shoot...once your past 800-1000 yds it's all about reading the WIND.

We have some guys that can make groups at 1K yds that would make 99% of us quite happy as a 200 yds group with a varmint or hunting rifle.

I remember when he did that, awesome shooting. After retirement we will be moving to our retirement compound and doing some long range shooting. Looking forward to it.
