It doesn't surprise me any more. NJ used to be fairly conservative in the 60's and 70's. Not any more though.

Reason 1,000,001 to steer clear of Jersey.... :-\

Deepest condolences to our valued and appreciated member from the Garden State.  No disrespect intended.

This is the first I heard of this.

I will look into it more. We knew the new Governor Murphy was anti-gun, but we didn't know it would be this bad.

As I recall a court found that to be unconstitutional and they were to revert to 10 rounds. But it sounds like though the judge is on their side the law has not been changed yet. I found this: https://psanded.com/7-or-10-rounds (https://psanded.com/7-or-10-rounds). What a mess!

Good stuff PCFlorida!

I found this from the text of Judge Skretny's ruling in the New Yord case.

"Drawing from post-Heller rulings that have begun to settle the vast terra incognita left by the Supreme Court this Court finds that the challenged provisions of the SAFE Act -- including the Act's definition and regulation of assault weapons and its ban on large-capacity magazines -- further the state's important interest in public safety, and do not impermissibly infringe on Plaintiffs' Second Amendment rights. But, the seven-round limit fails the relevant test because the purported link between the ban and the State's interest is tenuous, strained and unsupported in the record."

I would really love to see this judge go on and defend how restrictions on standard capacity (30 round) magazines further the states interest in public safety.  I have not seen that study.

One can have all the gun's they want in N.J.. Just can't leave the door of residence with a sidearm. The state is a fiscal nightmare.  The Government employees  flock upon retirement to the south.

And I thought California, my home State, was nuts. How did they come up with a five round limit?
Most revolvers take at least six rounds and a five round limit could actually be a hazard for someone in a self defense situation if the trigger is pulled using a six shot revolver and nothing happens. It sounds like a bill that was proposed by someone with no knowledge of firearms.

5 and 10 are commonly selected numeric quantities due to the fact we have five digits on each hand.

This new 5 round law may be a back-door attempt to reverse a Federal Judges decision to block the California magazine ban.

So, every 10mm 1911 I own would be still technically ILLEGAL since they hold 8 rounds normally, And many of my 10mm mags I changed springs and followers so they now hold 9 rounds? Doesn't this just about make every loaded Clock and EAA Witness double stack automatically illegal?

they way the bill is written, semi auto handguns are good up to magazine capacity of 15 rounds.

Rifle mags must be reduced to ten rounds.

So, does that mean I can't kill you just as dead with a handgun as a .223. Even though a handgun is even EASIER to use indoors?

My mistake Brio. Here is the bill:

The 15 round magazines are law enforcement / retired law enforcement with a carry permit only.

So long as there are Democrats that continue to follow the Communist Playbook, there will always be threats to our rights and freedoms! >:(

Why is that?  They are a Big Greedy Government Gone Wild for Power & Total Control to which they enslave the people.  This plot was placed into action many years ago and is reaping the fruits of that movement...  I refer to it as the AGENDA!  What is the AGENDA you might ask?
As you read through these think about the actions that are already in place as they dumbed down the people, chipping away at freedoms bit by bit, piece by piece.  >:(  :(  ???

That's how they are doing it. Incrementally whittling away our rights until nothing is left

New Jersey is just trying to enact "reasonable" gun control laws. ::)

I guess they just want to ignore that funny line in the second amendment that goes "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.".

The End Goal is that the only guns citizens will be allowed to own will be flintlock muskets, however black powder and lead will both be illegal.

Remember that when you hear someone say I don't care about your gun because I shoot _______.

This will devolve one of two ways. They win. We convince them to back off.  If everyone said "I'll never buy another California made/grown item" and let them know WHY it would hurt the sixth largest economy in the world.  But can you live without avocados?  Off the top of my head I can't think of anything NJ produces...

They produce some mighty stupid gun laws that affect legal owners greatly and bad guys not at all.
