Title: Hunter (Super Match) dissection with ejector cut photo (photo heavy)
Post by: Intercooler on December 10 2017 07:56:16 AM MST
I tore down my old Hunter this morning at the request of a member to see what the wear looks like on the parts. The slide locking lugs and ejector modification has some interest. This after several years, a frame hard chrome job and several thousand 10mm bombs through it.

This is where the guide rod sets in the frame channel. Basically why the cone guide-rod was created. It still looks pretty new there and also on the slide landing area on top. Original spring, etc...

Here is the ejector and I cut it to a bloody knub  :P This is light work with a Dremel and small half bastard file.

Original slide stop that has also been hard chromed. I did file the spring retaining notch down some early to keep it from popping out. It's probably fine as-is in other calibers... not so much in 10mm. Considering I busted one in my Dan Wesson Razorback and CZ's eat them after some rounds... that's saying something! I don't see much wear here at all really.

Original two-piece guide-rod end that anchors in frame channel. Not much wear at all.

The factory pin holding the two-piece rod busted a while ago. I fixed it with JB Weld and a peened pin of my choosing. I also somewhat polished the rod end.

The slide rails show a little wear, but nothing crazy. Some of the original black slide color still shows on them in places. Original extractor and spring assembly. I have never touched it!

Original barrel with the locking lugs and ramp still looking good. I did polish the feed ramp one time since new. I found a deal on a spare barrel that I have kept squirreled away.

The Peanut/Kidney barrel cam still looks good. Saw a post this week about a busted CZ piece.

The barrel locking lugs. The locking lugs still look to have defined edges. Some shiny wear on the slide contact areas. I don't know the original meat measurement of how tall they were and know it varies some from slide to slide. I will find the lug picture of my Limited 10mm when it was new and post.

Slide contact area, firing pin block, firing pin and flat bottom retention block show very little wear.

I forgot to mention I purchased it used and don't know exactly how many rounds the prior owner put on it. If it goes another 3-4 years before something major goes, I got my money's worth out of it!

Thanks for the pics! Dang, mine had more wear on the front edges of the locking lugs than yours and I had 500 rounds through it and only about 200 loaded like real 10mm. Yours is wearing fantastically!

Maybe yours had some kind of abnormality or fitment issue causing wear there. I wonder if sending it in to EAA wouldn't have been a good option?

Might have, and I probably should have at least tried. I have just heard so many horror stories about their customer service that I didn't want to deal with all of it.

I think it's still lifetime warranty. I think at some point I would have.
