So.... I am seeing pictures of Witness Steel Compacts in 10mm with rounded slides and squared slides.

The manufacturer part # and UPC both seem to be the same from what I can see. Calling the shops is not helping because they usually draw these from their warehouses and can't check the pistol in the case for me. Is there any way to know which model I would be getting? I know the slide cracking problems were due to some bad batches back around 2011. Either way, I would prefer the heftier slide for the 10mm.

Only way I know is to see a picture of the actual gun.

Gunbroker is probably the best source for seeing the actual gun, otherwise you'll never know until you get it. I'd never buy a Witness if the seller couldn't provide the actual pic. This mainly applies to the compacts, since EAA has a bad habit of not indicating which slides are current production. My compact is the squared slide and listed as the compact P 10mm. On the EAA website the squared slides are not shown, nor mentioned.
Good point, I started looking on there. I'm going to call a few shops tomorrow and see if they'll be willing to send emails with pics.
Exactly! We live in an era where just about everyone has access to a cell with camera.
The problem I am running into with all the places I am calling is that the pistols are in warehouses, and not at the shops.... So, unless I can convince them to call their distributor, or give me the number to call (highly unlikely), then this will take some time.
I wonder if Tanfoglio understands just how much damage is done to their US sales vie the terrible service and business approaches of EAA. This should be an easy solution... Call EAA and see what they have brought in and track them down from there.
I personally wouldn't worry about the slide. Here is why.
1. The issue only affected a subset of the "scalloped" slides, not all.
2. There have been no "new" reports of the cracking issue in 4-5 years
3. All the pictures I have seen of actual guns in the last few years have been the "squared" style
4. EAA has figured it out and replaces cracked slides without much fuss.
For those four reasons I personally would order if I saw the right price on one.

I favor the sights on the one with front cocking serrations, but I don't like front cocking serrations. And, while it appears that $520-$550 is the going price...I personally won't pay that much for one. I can get a brand new blue label Glock 29 with three mags for $491.
