Title: Witness barrel longer than 6"?
Post by: Scarlett Pistol on October 11 2017 02:37:04 PM MDT
Does anyone know if a witness barrel exists that is longer than 6"?

I love my Witness Hunter and I now I am wanting to get a 10mm threaded barrel for a muzzle break. The goal would be the fastest possible follow up shots.

Ultimately, I could get a full size Witness and get a 6" barrel threaded. I'm just wondering about a longer barrel so I could still use my Witness Hunter.

I wonder if your follow up shots would be faster.

When I have shot my 9mm pistol suppressed, with light loads, the muzzle flip was much more pronounced than without the can.

If my muzzle rise isn't reduced (thus allowing faster follow up shots) with a compensator like this (just an example):

Then I would be pretty befuddled. All the Open shooters have compensators to achieve this exact same thing. But who knows, I could be wrong in my pursuit...

Not a bad idea! I would have to have the slide machined and wouldn't I lose velocity? Does the porting work as well as compensators?

Velocity loss is less than the variations from one barrel to another in most cases.  25-35 fps.

In my experience with several guns, rifles and one .454 handgun, magna porting has a minimal effect and it also may shave material from bullets creating an unholy mess where the shaved material piles up, partly in the port and partly in the barrel. I wouldn't do this to another gun but others must have different experiences or they presumably would have been out of business long ago.

I haven't found a barrel over 6 inches for the eaa but you may be able to machine the front of the hunter slide to the dimensions of the "eaa witness stock" and then build a cone style comp on your factory 6" barrel.

When it comes to quick double taps in the 10mm nothing will beat a compensated gun.  Ported barrels do little for effective braking or muzzle control in my opinion.  I can do double taps with my longslide glock with a 4 port comp on some utterly insane power level loads.

At that point I would just justify saving up for another witness with the standard sized slide and then get the 6" barrel, thread it, and use that one as my comp'd pistol

This is most excellent to hear how effective the comp is for your Glock!
