I'm currently using 8.7 grains of PP with 180 gr XTP bullets. Because accuracy is lacking, I am going to give Blue Dot a try with the 180 gr XTP. Any thoughts on a midrange starting point for this? Once tested, I can work it up from there if needed
Thanks in advance
Ken
Alliant's generic 180 grain JHP data says start at 9.4, max at 10.4. Source: Handloads.org
Alliant's current data shows 180 grain gold dot at 11.0 grains max. No data for other 180 JHP's
I would start at 9.4 and work up. If case head expansion looked good at 10.4 and velocities were in the mid-1200's, I would continue to approach the 11.0 grain gold dot limit.
Keep in mind that 1350 fps is a hard max on a 180 grain bullet. The laws of physics with current powder profiles don't allow you to get past 1350 at safe pressures. 1300 is a soft max for me with a proper burn profile powder.
Very good, Thanks!
