Title: I Have So Much Fun With My 10mm Mechtech....
Post by: gandog56 on August 25 2017 03:13:25 PM MDT
....but it was such a pain in the butt to disassemble my 1911 and mount it in the Mechtech, that I decided to give ANOTHER brand carbine a try, this time with a dedicated lower. So I went to Gunbroker and bid on a TNW ASR Kryptek Red in 10mm. It uses Glock magazines so I will get to also fit a few more rounds in. It also disassembles like a survival rifle so I can fit it in small spaces.

Very interesting.  I am looking forward to a head to head review.  Since you are thinking red dot ... I'm gonna request 25 yard rested group comparison.

I had to look it up and confirmed that it is a blowback action like the Mechtech.  But, as a Survival rifle, it shows clear advantage.  I really like the multicaliber kits - it seems that you can swap pistol calibers as easily as swapping barrel, boltface and magazines, and this is a clear advantage.  I have can run 45 and 10 from two mechtech tubes and sorta plan to get a 9mm to round out the collection to be prepared to handle available ammo.  This TNW ASR kit would certainly pack easier than a trio of Mechtechs - the shallow side of this advantage is that it is one PCC instead of 3 (I dedicated a lower, but I can assemble all three simultaneously using 1911s in my collection.

Grandog ... I do have an additional request.  Tell me about the trigger ... the Mechtech advantages the amazing triggers in my 1911s which will be difficult to match.

They actually sell multi-caliber kits, where you get like three barrels. Not really sure what they do for magazines though.

10-7 leo

Are you talking the Mechtech here or the Aero? Because I am not sure which due to your comparing the carbine to the pistol. There is no pistol with the Aero.

Got it. Just ordered 5 more mags from CDNN. Was surprised how cheap the mags were, $18 a pop. Guess they hold 15, so if I stick one in the pipe, should have 16 shots per.

I have four Glock mags with the Kriss mag extension on them.  33 rounds each.

Hey GD
Look into these Arredendo +5 Mag Bases for the Glock 20 Mags
They make the Factory 15s into 20 Round Mags
I run them in my MG20

Finally had a week of no doctor appointments, and no rain. So I finally finally got my new TNW to the range. It feels a lot like my Mechtech, but I don't have to swap mags so much. Pic of my first shots walking the PIA of the red dot down to where I wanted it.

I've had my Mec-Tech for almost a year now. Over 1,000rds with no malfunctions! I've shot Underwood, Buffalo Bore, Double Tap, Armscor, S&B, Federal, all functioned fine and shot tight groups. The only thing lacking was a high cap mag. So I bought 2 Korean made 26rd, Glock 21 mags (.45acp) and converted them to 10mm. These mags now hold 30rds and have been 100% reliable! So now I have have a 30rd 10mm carbine.
