Title: SR1911 question
Post by: mt10mm on August 25 2017 06:16:05 AM MDT
Picked one of these up not long ago and really like BUT the Ruger mags do not like DoubleTap 200gr HC. I can get about 4 loaded before the mag binds up. The mags have no problem with 200gr XTP UW ammo. Does anyone know if there are other mags out there that will feed the wide 200gr HC bullets? I did order some Wilson Combat mags but they will not be here for a few days.

Wilson Combat will probably be fine. If they don't work try a Wilson Combat #47D. It is a 45 mag but has been said to work in 10mm 1911's.

Use an uplula mag loader and stuff it full. Leave it that way for a week or so. My new Ruger mag springs are so strong it is hard to depress the slide release lever. I have Colt and RIA mags that are much easier to to use.

Hamopr, based on the description by MT10mm, it sounds like the magazine loads just fine with cartridges loaded with other bullet designs.  The issue is not spring tension, but that the wide nose of the DT 200 grain is binding against the magazine body where it narrows at the front.

Mt10mm, your only real option is a magazine with a bit longer body, or made from a thinner material to create more space inside.

Ok, mis-read the problem. Maybe try a 45 mag which is a bit wider in the front? I've seen where people have been using 45 mags with moderate success. I just loaded up some 200gr. wfngc but not tried them in a magazine yet, better do that before heading to the range.

My Wison mags came today, ordered 9rd mags. The DT 200gr HC fit fine in these mags. The ruger mags just do not like the 200gr HC.

Thanks for everyones help!
