Title: Help with first 10mm AR build
Post by: black_hog_down on July 28 2017 01:38:10 PM MDT
Hi. New here. First 10mm build.
So far I have ordered the Quarter Circle 10 large frame Glock lower.
I want to end up with a direct impingement SBR. Around 7 inches of barrel.
Who sells the parts I need? What do I need?
I was reading about the QC10 lower needing to be modified for DI. Have I already screwed up?
Any tips or advice? Gotchas?
Thanks.

First AR build ever?  Or first in 10mm?

If this is your first build ever, I might politely suggest you do a 5.56 build just to cut your teeth.  If you go budget on that build you will be all in about about 1/2-2/3's the price of the QC10 stripped lower.  ($289 for a complete upper from Primary Arms, $105 for the lower + build kit +stock/buffer kit).

As far as you other questions, a couple of our members have build DI 10mm AR's.  They will be by shortly to provide some support I am sure.

All good then.

This thread is for you!

And I would warn you about the addiction, but you already know.  I build a 6.5 Grendel upper today while eating lunch.  Got the barrel on a JSE blemished closeout for $30 if you can believe it.

Yikes. That looks complicated. Is a straight blowback safe with 10mm? Is a blowback more reliable? Is DI that much better?

The MechTech is straight blowback. Perfectly reliable, and imo a far better form-factor for pistol calibers than the AR pattern.

DI is lighter and softer shooting.  Blowback is perfectly safe, but it has a big heavy bolt, which makes it shoot harder than it is.

I am in contact with Ron from RMW extreme. I think I'll have him build and tune an upper for me.

Removing the ejector plate is simple.
If Ron W. is willing, I would send him the lower and mags to tune also.
Suggest the Korean 45 mags that hold approx. 26. If you're planning to use your Glock pistol mags send those also.

Remember we all recommend by our experiences. Those of us that have DI ARs like them. Those that have mech techs like them etc.

Ron at RMW Extreme is your man for the upper.

The QC10 lower assembles like any other lower.

I got the QC10 lower and the Glock mags. I have Ron Williams working on the 8" upper right now, and I have a Bravo Company LPK and Shockwave "arm brace" on order.

Almost there!(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170827/2041d7792c88c626225907ccea9371b0.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170827/e9d2f071af1ac814e4086649ce4cb497.jpg)

I've only shot 180 grain Sig and my hand loaded 200 XTPs so far and no issues.

black hog down-

Just curious about the build using the QC-10 lower on the RMW Extreme upper?

How did it turn out for you?

I have a QC 10 lower with other parts I purchased from several different places. I have a RWextreme barrel I had a local guy do bolt carrier mods and assembled myself. I never got the gun to cycle reliably always having bolt closing issues. Until this week I sent the barrel to Rudy at Macon armory. This guy is Top Notch He addresses some issues with the bore not being concentric to the outside of the barrel. (something you wouldn't expect on a $300.00 barrel) He also cut a different feed cone on the barrel and gave me a new gas block that seals better than the original one supplied by RWextreme. If anyone is having issues with a 10mm build or wants to invest in one Rudy is the guy.
