Experiences some slide lock back malfunctions with the Federal Trophy Bonded ammo:

Bad news: It didn't just run.

Good news: It was not either a feed or an extraction issue.  The slide stop was being engaged.

So, fundamentally the gun is running fine, but the slide stop may need a bit of file work.

Might even have been Hickok inadvertently hitting the slide stop as he was shooting the hot ammo.

Interested to see what your gun does.

Having met the man a few times, he's got quite large hands (I'm 6'4" and he's got me by 4") so I'm betting his high thumb grip caused the lockback. I've seen it happen quite a bit to 1911s with high-thumb grips by big guys.

Well, sounds like you might need to amputate a thumb just to make sure you don't accidentally lock he slide open!  :P

I had a Springfield lightweight compact that I had this problem with way back in the 90's. My left thumb would just barely touch the slide-stop and, under recoil, would bump the lock open on occasion. I looked into shaving the lever down but ended-up trading for a Government Model and that solved the issue for me.

Punisher, do I detect jealousy with ole Hickok45?

I think I would give both my family jewels to have his setup.  A personal range that is just outside your house to die for, people beating a path to your door with guns for you to shoot, and an ammo manufacture that is giving you ammo to feed all of them hungry weapons he test.   :)

I thought it had a decent spring in it for the hotter stuff out of the box?

Context?  It has a relatively stiff recoil spring, but that won't help your thumb hitting the slide stop.

He mentions a couple times in the video the possible need for a different spring, or main spring to shoot the heavy stuff.

I remember reading about a guy who had an issue with premature slide lock in his Remington R1 Hunter 10mm.  The fix was to install an Ed Brown 40/10mm slide stop.

Maybe it's an issue with the Ruger slide stop and certain bullet profiles?  I'm thinking Hickok45 knows how to shoot a 1911.
