I have a Grand Power 10mm. I love it except that it drops the magazine occasionally when shooting full power loads. It doesn't do it when firing the tame PPU ammo.
I know some of you have had the same problem. Did you ever get it resolved? Bersa/Eagle Imports said to send it in to one of their authorized repair facilities. There are quite a few on the list. Any recommendations which one to choose?
Thanks
I sent mine to Ahlmans in Minnesota, quick turn around ...under two weeks. Mine still on rare occasions will drop a mag but only on the last round. I am pretty sure it is the mag follower bumping the release in the frame as it comes up in the mag. I am filing a notch in the follower a little bit at a time so it won't touch the mag catch as it passes by.
When I first got the pistol it would drop several times per mag.
Hope this helps and welcome to the forum. A lot helpful people here.
Mine also drops the mag on the last round!
Like you I slotted the follower... going to see if that helps this weekend.
I also notice the spring may hit the mag lock on the last round but am going to see if the follower mod works before I mad the spring.
Thanks for the information. Do you have any photos of the modified follower?
I received my Grand Power P40 10mm back from Colorado Gun Works yesterday. They replaced the magazine catch assembly. I haven't shot it yet however. Before I sent it in, the magazine release button was very easy to depress. Now it is noticeably stiffer to actuate. I am hopeful that the problem is solved. I will let you know once I actually get to put some rounds through it.
I just got mine back From Colorado Gun Works too. They had mine since January 12th! The mag release is very stiff now. I just closed on a house on Monday so I am in the process of moving. It may be 3 or 4 weeks till I get a chance to go to the range.
I just got mine back as well on Tuesday. Very stiff mag release. I put a couple mags of nuclear ++ through it with no issue, though to be honest I haven't had the issue since it was new, once it was broken in it no longer dropped the mags. So I don't really know if it proved anything.
Mine went back in for second time to fix mag drop.Been in the shop for 4 weeks now. Sucks.

Who did you send it to?
The second time it went to CGW. They still are in the process of fixing a bunch of them including mine.

Mine was there about 3 weeks.
I was able to put 70 rounds through my GP P40 yesterday. They consisted of 50 rounds of SIG 180gr FMJ and 20 rounds of Underwood 200gr XTP. I am happy to report that all rounds were trouble free and the magazine drop issue seems to have been remedied.

Good to hear!
Do anyone know how stiff the magazine catch is on the Witness series which I believe uses a similar magazine?

Great news . Glad you put some hot stuff through it with no issues.
Anxiously waiting to get mine back.
Magazine catch on Witness is about the same as all my other guns.

So what is different between the Witness and the Grand Power, the physical location of the magazine catch? If the Grand Power puts it in the front of the magazine, where does the Witness put it, and what is different between the two?
Someone else will have to chime in on those answers. I only know that the two witness guns I have are very much like the stiffness of all my other pistols. Glock, Ruger 1911, Para 1911, Sig P229, High Power...They all feel about the same.

Just got me curious is all. Thank you for the reply.
I finally got to the range with my p40 after getting it back from Colorado Gun Works about a month ago. After moving I was a bit lazy about getting the gun stuff unpacked. The mag release seemed a very stiff
at first but seemed to loosen up a bit with use. I put 6 mags through it (3 mags twice each). The mags did not drop out! However, when I sent it in, I told them that the gun would consistently misfeed the last
round in the mag. The said they "could not duplicate" the issue. On all 6 mags the last round failed to feed. Oh well.

How many rounds are you loading? I have not had that problem. I typically load 13 however.
It doesn't matter how many rounds. 4 or 14 it always misfeeds the last round.

Most likely attributable to a rough breach face. The case head is having trouble sliding up the face as it feeds, without a round beneath it to help.
If you polish the breach face, the last round feeding problem should go away.

Got my P40 out to the range today. 200 rounds through it. 2 failure to feeds towards the end of the session. The gun was rather dirty , not sure if that was the reason or I limp wristed it. Other than that, it ran excellent. All the ammo I shot was 1200 + fps. 180 grainers.
Great to hear 10Tens. The Grand Power sure is a sweet shooter.

I'm amazed at the accuracy of this pistol right out of the box. 2 inch groups all day off hand with no bench rest at 30 feet.
Any more reports pro or con on the mag drop issue, and how it is being dealt with?
I don't think I mentioned it above, but getting the service done and the turn around time was excellent. About 3 weeks door to door.
Only issue I have is with one of my 4 mags . It fails to lock the slide open on last round.
Hello All, I got a Grand Power P40 10mm a few months back and was having issues feeding the last round in the magazines. I believe I just figured out the problem and wanted to share for anyone else having the same issue.
Sorry but I forgot who suggested it but I polished the breech face and then the extractor which I believe was the real issue. The exactor had some sharp edges that was digging into the brass as it was sliding up the breech. At home while cycling it I took a sharpie and marked the brass on a misfeed round then inspected it and found a big gouge on the neck of the brass where the extractor was making contact.
I did have to do a little filing to get the sharp edge off then polished it with a Dremel with polishing compound.
Before it seemed to misfeed every 3rd magazine or so, today I just ran 50 magazines through it with no issues whatsoever ;D. Happy Camper!
Good news! Did you share with the people at Eagle Imports?

I think I'm having the same issue and was about to polish it out as well. Kind of a bummer since nearly every part of my gun is so well finished. Seems a shame they forgot to polish or just put a nice smooth radius on the extractor from the factory.
