Title: my new to me 1006
Post by: rapidray10mm on May 08 2017 03:35:22 AM MDT
Well, I have come a great looking S&W 1006 at a price I could live with. The gentleman who was letting it go lived about 2 and a half hours away. Which gave me the time to get a deal in with him. Picked it up on Friday on my way to Florida to visit my kids. Saturday it a visit to their local range in the Tampa area. My impression of the 1006? It is now my favorite 10mm. What a nice pistol to shoot. Accurate as get up and go. It is going to be my BBQ gun so now I am on the look out for a nice holster. I will still carry my Glock 20 as my CCW.

rapidray10mm, Congrats!  Very nice 1006, many were not shot much because of ammo prices and availability.  It should serve you well.  I would suggest getting a replacement Wolff Gunsprings 22lb recoil spring as the older was 18lb and probably still original to the gun.  Keep the gun clean lightly oiled on the rails to preserve the fit and function.

I started my 10mm addiction very early 1990 with the S&W 1006 with adjustable sights just like yours.  Back then I was younger and stronger, eyes like a hawk, and could shoot that thing with accuracy like a rifle out to 130 yards under 4".  It helped that I also handloaded for it since day one, developing some loads where no data existed until later on.

Light bulb went off...until you mentioned the 22 lb spring!!! :) the previous owner has changed it out already! There is a 22 lb. in there now. He will mail the 18 lb. to me when he comes across it.
Eyes like a hawk..;I remember those days ;) which is why I have the Glock model 40. Will be putting a red dot on it shortly. Those red dots are a blessing to us older dated people. With the red dot sights, shooting is fun again.
Reloading will begin in 469 days...when I retire:) that's when life really begins.

I added a 1006 to my collection on Friday also! Wolff springs will be here today and hopefully get to the range tomorrow. My 1026 has always been my favorite, I know I won't be disappointed. Congrats on your purchase.....be safe and enjoy.

Congratulations on your 1006. I was already working out a deal with the owner when someone put a 1076 up for sale! :) after a nanosecond I still wanted the 1006 - I am sure I will find another 1076 down the road.

Congrats . It's a very fine gun. I've had a few over the years. I sold them and settled on a 1076 and a 1066 for ease of carry... But for Target or open carry the 1006 is hard to beat. Enjoy.

Happy Day! Getting my new-to-me 1006 tomorrow and really looking forward to trying it out.

Hate to resurrect on old thread but feeling excited about this find. Did the OP find a suitable holster?
