Title: Well I'm back here permanently.
Post by: Overkill338 on May 06 2017 11:15:57 PM MDT
I had an overzealous moderator at GT delete a topic of mine because I used "f**k" in the title. Am I wrong, or aren't we all suppose to be adults on a handgun forum?

Regardless, that moderator can kiss my ass.

The topic was started because I found rust on my September 2016 Glock 29.

Just some friendly words of advice...You probably would have gotten away with that if you didn't post the curse word with two blocked out letters in the title. Putting it in the title makes it much more obvious. I am sure that moderators anywhere would not appreciate it.

As to your G29, I am not sure I see the rust on it. Are you talking about the blemish above the word "Austria?"

Yes, right above Austria

Looks like it will buff out, as mentioned above.

For a chronic problem you can contact Glock. Every once in a while an improperly treated gun leaves the factory. Glock has been known to make good on this when it occurs.

We are pretty lenient here.

But, at the same time, I don't know that I would just assume we are "all adults" here.  I encourage my kids to be involved and enthused about firearms and forums are a great place to read and learn.

Of course, I also tell my kids to swear as long as they aren't being mean to someone else.  Especially as a response to pain.

LOL, like kicking a chair in the kitchen when you get up to let the dog out in the dark....

When my youngest boy was about 8 or 9 he got a wicked splinter I had to dig out.  We told him to go nuts with the swearing to help with the pain....

And, about a year when my second daughter was leaving Jr. High there was an event.  Four years earlier she had gone to Jr. High honors night with us for my oldest daughter.  Daughter #2 saw a very select group of students get an award for having a 4.0 all three years in Jr. High, and she decided she wanted that honor.  She worked her but off and succeeded, but at the cost of many family movie nights, many nights out with friends, and many other activities of interest.

Due to an accounting error her name was NOT called at the honors night.  She was denied the very honor she had worked for.  Once we got the car instead of crying, she busted out with "F****ity-F**k-F**k-F**k-F**k.  Mom and I just smiled at her creative and appropriate use of swearing.  The next day it was announced over the school PA that her name was omitted, and the school was called to a special assembly just before lunch where she got the award.

But she is done with working for a 4.0.  She has a solid 3.95 her first year of high school, with two AP classes in that schedule.  She also had a job until just a few weeks ago and has an active social life.  Much better quality of life, and, I think, a much healthier outlook.  Great girl.  And a dead eye with an M1 Garand.

Or, tripping over the dog in the dark and your head hitting the dresser?

Yep, that counts double.

They gave me a 7 day ban, then wanted me to come back and apologize to those waste of space moderators. I'm friends with the community manager, so I emailed him and told him to delete my account. I refuse to apologize to trash.

Well...lesson learned.

Don't settle for half-ass firearm forums and you won't be disappointed.

Not counting spammers, we have a grand total of 3 members EVER banned.

We have few rules here, because we don't need them. I'm very lenient with swear words. They don't bother me at all. It's really about context. For example, getting f**king mad about your gun rusting is completely acceptable, but using the same word to describe a sexual act would not be.

Thanks Patriot, I like it here. I love my 10mm anyway, and just ordered a 9x25 barrel for it.

Before I say what I think about this whole deal here there are some things about me that I should point out..

(1) I'm a truck driver, have been for a lot of years, I'm no stranger to foul language and have been known to make a few sailors blush with my highly developed profanity vocabulary.

(2) I've also been a high ranking forum moderator, good bit of experience there too...was there to see Marlin Owners grow to over 20,000 members before it was sold and I didn't enjoy it as much under the new ownership...I'm still friends with all the old mods and admins that were there, on Facebook, lol, I no longer visit Marlin Owners forum...Dave, the former owner took me hog hunting in Oklahoma a few years back....anyway, I'm rambling.

(3) I do not mean to offend you or defend them...just calling it as I see it...nothing more, nothing less.

I wanted to make those 3 things known before I said this...

A forum is a public place and its success or failure depends on its image...and a lot of that type of language on display is no good for the image...as a moderator, I approached foul language on the board as if it was a country song....a few hells, shits , and damns are one thing and I never once said a word about those, even after being told to curb it a few times....but words depicting sex acts, genitalia, and the like are vulgar and offensive to some people, even adults...I've given both temporary and permanent bans for such language myself.

Moderating a forum is a job that will make you both friends and enemies if you're doing it right...I don't think the mod did anything wrong.

We're all guilty of a bad choice of words here and there...I know I've done it.

A forum is at it its best with around 5,000 members, with maybe 200-300 active...once it hits 20,000+ members with a thousand active members the dynamic changes, it has to.

Hope that doesn't piss anybody off, I'm just calling it as I see it...probably shoulda just kept my mouth shut, but I was never very good at that.

I'm not mad at you brother. That's your opinion and you're entitled to it. The way I see it, we're square :)
