Title: not 1k, but Muzzle Energy = 937 ft.lbf
Post by: dred on April 23 2017 08:31:59 PM MDT
460 Rowland.

I put some 255 grain hardcast Underwood through the project pistol today (just short of 1300fps).  It is a raw build that is currently sitting on a doublestack 1911 frame.

I'm pretty sure that 1k+ will be happening soon.  Seems all I need to do is load up some lighter pills with faster powder than I had been using.  I did fire some of my lighter handloads developed for the Mechtech, but they were dissapointingly slow out of the pistol (230gr @ ~1200fps).  In the back of my mind I'm wondering if I'm going to find a load that makes me smile out of both 5" and 16.5" barrels.  First things first, I want to get 1k+ muzzle energy from the pistol - just 'cause.

She ain't pretty ... but 937 is stout.

I was attempting to fix the picture link but it is saved in a way that the link is not working out.  I did get to view it while trying to see if I could repost the link in google

Thanks.  You have me wondering if it shows for the world.  It was uploaded to another forum using tapacrapper (actually tapa's best feature 'cause it circumvents the free image hosting shuffle); I could see it when I posted it and I can now see it Shadow's fix.

I can do the image hosting shuffle if non 1911addicts can't see this'n.

The other thing you could do is post the link as a url that would take them to the page...is not just a simple image link.
I hosted it from my FB page and linked it to your post so it could be seen.

Ok ... had to know ... so I snuck back into the range today.  Same load (255gr hardcast Underwood) in the Mechy, avg KE at the muzzle = 1212.  Average muzzle velocity from a 5 pew string was 1462.83fps.

So 11 or 11.5" longer barrel ride got a little more than 250fps gain.
