#9 huh? Maybe we should put a % of certainty on these ;D
Wish me luck pulling the 125 gr they are super crimped, The 158 was a bear to get it to move.... :-[
Maybe it's just because the pic of powder you posted isn't much of a closeup, but what I'm seeing in your pic doesn't seem to be what I see looking at my No.9 powder.
In your pic the powder pieces look very uniform in shape and not flattened hardly at all, if at all. My No.9 powder pieces have a very noticeable difference in size and plenty of them are very flattened balls while others are balls that aren't flat or only lightly flattened at most, just like in the No.7 pics I posted in the 180gr Ted Nugent ammo thread.
I would need to see more of a closeup of the powder you're showing to be sure.
Another powder that fits this profie is RamShot Enforcer...
Enforcer 125 HDY HP XTP 16.2 gr 1,500 fps - 18.0 gr 1,667 fps @ 32,570 psi COAL 1.580"
Enforcer 158 HDY HP XTP 12.5 gr 1,206 fps - 14.0 gr 1,320 fps @ 34,000 psi COAL 1.590"
AA#9 is shown as...
No.9 125 NOS JHP 15.3 gr 1,482 fps - 17.0 gr 1,685 fps 45,100 CUP COAL 1.575"
No.9 158 HDY XTP 13.5 gr 1,293 fps - 15.0 gr 1,470 fps 44,900 CUP COAL 1.580"
BTW this is some of my AA#9 from 2008 Accurate #9 has under gone many formulations with the more recent being all flattened ball.

Thanks for the info. Very impressive velocities, way above the Speer Manual's data.
Now the big question is should I buy a box each of the new stuff from DoubleTap to see if the load changed? I know my Chrony says the stuff I just got in trade is better.
For sure #9? Do you have something to fire these in?
Yes, I'll be testing then fron S&W mod.19 6"
I was trying to do them today but time ran out...sorry.
Are we sure #9? I wanted to add it on the sheet.
It looks just like #9 as compared to the AA#9 I have from 2008.

Not my business, but it doesn't bother you to shoot hot 125gr 357 loads from a Mod 19 Smith? I always heard to stick with the 158 gr loads in the K frame.
It's just one cartridge. Hope it doesn't kill it :D
You know I've heard and read many stories from the 19's being beat up and flame cutting of the top straps, etc.
I have shot some pretty good stuff from mine over the years, still good to go. I have had the sights (adj.) get loose and the ejector rod back off on a session once. Hey I bought this thing as a shooter... 8)
I cast an RCBS 180 silhouette bullet (also avalible in TMJ from Speer) that is a long, when crimpped in the normal cannelure it will not work with revolvers with short cylinders and as loaded will not cycle thru my Marlin 1894 lever gun. But I shoot them from my 19 without issue over 11.0 grains of Blue Dot... ;D
Just wondering as I'd read the same stuff myself. Seemed the consensus was to shoot the magnums in 158 gr. Mine is a 19-2, 6 inch. Not sure why I bought it ;D, a friend for my Python, I guess. Usually shoot hotter stuff thru the GP-100.....I'm not sure you can hurt one of those. ;)
That's what I have is a GP100. I have shot some nasty stuff through it and it just keeps chugging. Part of why I went Redhawk when it was .44 time.
Yeah, Rugers are underrated by many. Many of them are a lot of gun for the price.
I'm on my second GP-100, traded the first one away and immediately regretted it. My current one is a 4", the old one was a 6, but with half-lug vs full lug they feel the same, with one major difference. Of all the Rugers I've owned (6 or 7 at least) this GP-100 has the best trigger I've ever pulled on a Ruger, and I've subjected it to loads I would never put in a Smith. I wore out a S&W 686 in a couple years, this GP will easily outlast me AND my kids. What a tank. I've had Redhawks, Security Sixes, and SP-101's, and this one beats them all. If they made it in 10mm/40 I'd buy two, just to let one cool down while I shot the other one.
Back to the forensic powder studies, I think a "% of certainty" would be a good idea as well, there are SO many powders that look alike that it's nearly impossible to say for sure what a powder is unless it's got blue flakes in it, or something else that gives it away. Of course, anyone who uses the data from the breakdown without checking it against several other sources is a nincompoop anyway.......... ::)
I have done zero trigger work or any work for that matter and the trigger pull in SA is 4.5lbs.
Well today I added the data fro the 158 & 125 Double Tap Test...
158 grain Gold Dot Tested January 27th 2013 Velocity Bad reading as tested from the Smith & Wesson Mod 19 6" BBL, primer slightly flattened Case expanded 0.3840"
125 grain Gold Dot Tested Tested January 27th 2013 Velocity Bad reading as tested from the Smith & Wesson Mod 19 6" BBL, primer slightly flattened Case expanded 0.3830"
Although the velocity data was lost, SORRY! I'll try and duplicate these in the near future!
