Title: 357 sig defensive ammo suggestions??
Post by: Buckeye 50 on March 09 2017 06:46:54 PM MST
What are your preferences given the choice between Underwood Extreme Defender 90 grains and Federal HST in 125 grains?

I guessing many will say either is great but would like some opinions anyway.

Thanks,

Pat

FYI - my first choice is my 10mm but I do love my new Sig 229 SAS version with 3.9" barrel in 357 sig for carry

I like the heavier option, 125 HST or Gold Dot would be a great choice...

I'm carrying the Underwood Xtreme Defender 90 grain .38 Super in my daily carry Commander.  It is running 1560 fps from a 4.25" barrel. Don't think you can go wrong with the same bullet in .357 SIG.

I do have two guns chambered for the SIG round...a Glock 23 and a Glock 40. Right now they are loaded with Buffalo Bore 125s..I believe the Speer Gold Dot HPs. Have not clocked them yet.

The nice thing about the SIG round is that there is no bad ammo out there...just ones better than others...  The slowest round going in the Hornady 147s at 1200 fps...

For general carry, the HST load.

I understand the "regular " 125gr JHP 357Sig loads are all stopping violent felons on the street with the same results as the old 125gr JHP 357Magnums did - with much less recoil.

Real life.

I use Speer gold dot 125gr duty rounds. They run at 1350 fps, which isn't the fastest for .357, but they don't have a problem blowing a watermellon to pieces.  ;D

I get them in the 50 round boxes from sgammo.com. They function nicely in my P229.  I recently procured a SIG Nightmare 1911 in .357.  I haven't run them in that yet, but I'm curious to find out how they do.

Factory ammo w/Speer 125gr. at 1427fps out of my M&P Compact.  A little faster out of the full size M&P
