Title: What accuracy are you getting from your 10mm pistol?
Post by: my_old_glock on March 03 2017 08:41:02 PM MST

What (average) accuracy are you getting from your 10mm handgun?

I just want to get a reference as to how well I and my guns are shooting compared to other people.

Please list:
Gun make/model
Barrel length
Group size
Distance to target
Type of hold (Ransom Rest, Sandbag, two-handed, etc)

Glock 20
4.6" stock barrel
1-3/4" to 2"
10 meters / 11 yards
Sandbag rest

Glock 20 with Lone Wolf long slide
6" Lone Wolf Alpha Wolf barrel
2" to 2-1/4"
10 meters / 11 yards
Sandbag rest

.

my 20.3 accuracy? it stinks
could be my aging (44) eyes or it could be that the rear sight from factory is confirmed a hair off. i shoot with a buddy and i shoot high left constantly.  not blaming glock but this is crap
not sure if i want to fix it or throw it in the river..

These are with my most accurate handload to date the 180 gr HP Xtreme with 10.4 gr of Blue Dot.

Glock 40 with Burris FF3 3 MOA dot
6" factory barrel
50 yards
Sandbag (wrists resting on bags) 2"-3"
Standing two hand hold 6"-8"

RIA Pro Match (model 52008)
6" factory barrel
50 yards
Sandbags 2.5"-3"
Standing 5"-6"
100 yards
Sandbags 6"

RIA FS (model 51991)
5" factory barrel
50 yards
Sandbags 2.5-3"
standing 3.5"-4"

Off sandbags, my G40 and RIA Pro Match are my most accurate 10's but testing my ability, shooting off hand, kneeling, prone, etc, I'm way more accurate with my standard 5" Rock.  Probably from all those years competing with a standard 5" 1911.

Well I have ruined some good groups as I get older these days!  :(

However in my younger days...good strength, excellent eyes

Gun make/model........Smith & Wesson 1006 (with adg sights)
Barrel length..............5"
Group size................ 4" and smaller sometimes
Distance to target.......out to 130 yards
Type of hold (Ransom Rest, Sandbag, two-handed, etc)  standing two handed or rested on table

Here lately in my older age 62, I'm happy to keep things inside a 4" target at 25 yards using the Glock 20 & 29 with the factory barrels.  I don't go and shoot as often as I should these days...

Gun make/model.....Glock 30
Barrel length...........3.78"
Group size..............inside x ring on that "Evil Black Silhouette" NRA Pistol Target B-27E Police Pistol (Silhouette)
Distance to target.....5'....10'....21'
Type of hold (Ransom Rest, Sandbag, two-handed, etc)  two handed, strong hand & weak hand, with single, double and triple taps with mag changes each 12 for 36 rounds for CCW refresher.

Glock 20
4.6" stock barrel
180gr Xtreme & 10.2 BDot
3" to 4"
25 ft
2 hand hold

It's me and eyes too....  Sort of like peeing as you get older;  just aim for the middle and watch out for flyers.

At 50 yards, I can make my groups touch. Oh wait you said pistol, that's with my 10mm AR SBR. And yes on bags, in position and if I am really still, some pretty tight groups, so that 11" RMW barrel is capable.

Glock 20 and SW 1006. It varies with caffeine intake. I can hit a head size target at 15-25 yards. Groups? What's that?

I really need to grind on my Glock 20 gen 3 SF LW longslide  grip. I just can't hold it right. One of these days I will send it out. Need to learn that process.

Glock G29
3.8" barrel
10 yards standing two hand hold Weaver Stance
about 3" groups on my best day.

Minute of milk-jug at 100 yards with my Elite Match.  A miss is my fault.

Sig 220-10 Hunter
standing bowling pin distance; two handed: minute of bowling pin 6x8 if not hurried;
bench rested some way or other: best group was : minute of peach pit;

varies from day to day;

Have yet to shoot farther than 75 yards; most distances are 25-50 yards;

Mostly reloads looking for the magic recipe;

At 10 meters, approx. 2-3" groups with good consistency (most of the time).

Glock 20, KKM precision match grade barrel (factory length), custom trigger and Trijicon HD yellow night sights.

Funny thing - when using the trijicon night sights my misses tend to be more vertical than horizontal????????

I'm amazed to learn at this late date, that I can get far better accuracy from my 10s, just by sitting down, not touching bench or rest at all.
The entire falling plate rack falls regularly, IF I use a chair and otherwise 2 handed 'Weaver style' hold.  If I stand up in the same position at the same
falling plate rack, missing 1 or 2 regularly.  Further unexplained as of yet, the vertical plate tree at same distance, is harder for me to hit than the horizontal presentation.

I've got about 15 years with my Glock 20; 16 or 17 years with my Glock 29. They are good for 25-30 yard shoulder shots on feral dogs or eastern coyotes. I wouldn't try to take a deer at more than 20 yards with either.(I would try for a deer with a 6' .357 mag single action at 50 yards). I'm making up my mind on a Glock 40 or a longslide 1911 10mm. Maybe I'll try a longer aftermarket barrel for the Glock 20, but I like to keep my handguns as stock as possible. I don't change things out until they break, changing springs doesn't count.

Bone stock Colt Delta elite at 15 yards, standing, two hand grip, slow fire....

Had a site pusher tool and was centering it up for my eyes.  You can see the previous group covered with black pasties..

That's about six inches.  Tried it off table rest and it isn't much better.

JUST FOR FUN (REAL FUN)  WITH A CALIPER OR BETTER WIPE THE NOSE AROUND CLEANED MEASURE AROUND THE FLAT SURFACE OF BULLET
COMPARE TO INTERNAL BORE
BEFORE BUYING NEXT BOX OF 10'S MEASURE DIAMETER OF BULLET ALONG FLAT WHICH EVER IS LARGER TRY THAT BOX OR IF HE HAS A OPEN BOX
EVERY .1OOO MAKES A DIFFERENCE IF BORE IS OK.
GIVE US THE WORD.

is that decimal in the right place?
Title: Re: What accuracy are you getting from your 10mm pistol?

Yep, it looks like sliclee is trying to reference 0.001" or one thousandths of an inch or 1/1000".

Some 10mm firearms actually have bores as small as 0.3990", most are 0.4000", however glocks are known to be 0.4015"-0.4020" in the bore.

For cast bullets it has been shown that 0.0020" over bore provides a better seal and less lead fouling.  With semi autos finding the best bullet size may cause feeding issues in tight chambered firearms, so usually 0.0010" or 0.0015" is what will feed best while still providing a good seal to yield accuracy with reduced fouling.  The blowby with the heat of the powder gases can leave deposits if too small, in addition to the actual smearing as the bullet takes to the rifling if not big enough.  BALANCE

TXCOONDOG has some impressive groups from his RIA 52000 at 25 and 50 yards off a rest

I bought the same pistol, I'm still working on loads for it but I will never have group sizes like him ---If I can shoot 1/2 as well as he does, I'd be happy

I have a Gen 3 Glock 20C I average 1.25"-1.50" at 11 yds, factory barrel, underwood 200 gr. I also have a Barsto smith fit barrel that does the same. Dunno if this gun and I just click or what but the thing is the most accurate firearm I own. I have G19, G22, G 19c, G23C, G22C, HK P30L .40, HK P30 .40, HK P30sk .9mm, USP .40. This G20C puts em all to shame....

Mine shoots minute of bad guy. I don't practice beyond 10 yards. Almost ALL self defense shoo outs are at 21 feet or less and over in less than 5 shots. I know my Glock won't out shoot my Ruger P93DC or a 1911 or hell even the Sig P229 I had. But center mass is all I need.

My G40 and I seem to be doing just over 2" at 50 yards most of the time... There are exceptions, and all of them are my fault.

That is shooting from a solid rest, very solid.

12" steel at 150 yards is no problem at all.

This is a hunting pistol, nothing more... So my practice is at hunting ranges.

Offhand... It's more like 8" at 50 yards.

2.5 moa red dot sight.
