Title: Springfield is going to produce 10mm guns
Post by: SavageOne on February 21 2017 07:15:08 PM MST
They say they will be working on a XDM this year and are looking at a 1911 down the road.

This would be huge if they actually do it right!

Very interesting. I wondered when they were getting into the 10mm game.

I would be interested.

I also will believe it when I see it.  They only introduced a 357 Sig because they were loosing big LE contracts by not having one.  And that is only a barrel change from a 40.  So, this seems like lip service to me.

But I hope I am wrong!

They have kept the 10mm available in their custom shop 1911s so they certainly have a good working knowledge.  They were supposed to have offered a 10mm Combat Operator through Lipsey's last year but the standard 9mm/.45 models are all that ever shipped. I'd love to see the XDM and a Range Officer roll out in 10mm.

Please let them do this. I have been emailing them for years asking for an XD in 10mm.

This is exactly what I have wanted since I created this site.

An American company, semi auto, non-1911 platform current production 10mm handgun.

I would probably sell all of my foreign made 10mm and buy 3 of them on the spot.

Isn't the XDM family made in Europe?

I thought some were American made? Now I'm reading most, if not all are made in Croatia?

Guess I won't get one after all.

What's this nonsense about 10mm being a Northwest thing?

I didn't see that in this thread, but you can't get much more southeast than where I am :)

It was in the video.  The suit in the middle of the video said it at 1:01.

And, I agree.  Not a northwest thing.  Mountain west checking in here!

I had to watch it again to catch that. I didn't recognize Rob Leatham, he put on some weight in his 40's or 50's. He used to be skinny as a rail back in the day.

Because Pablo and bunch of 10mm guys live here. They track where  the ammo is sold. But since I started reloading, maybe they track components and Longshot/AA #9 consumption  :)) ;) :D ;D 8)

What excites the most about the XD 10 is that they will probably get the grip size correct the first time, unlike my early Glock 20.

Keep in mind that Springfield had a 10 mm way back. It was the Omega. But they screwed it up by making it ported. loud, Loud, LOUD, LOUDER, LOUDEST!!!  :o

Sorry, my pics will not work on this site.

You're just too sensitive Vice.  The Omega is one of my favorites and I like the porting.(//)

Right you are my friend!  However there was a time I was queer for porting. I ported a lot of my small guns like the Detonics, 357 and 44 mag snubbies.  I loved how the porting tamed the torque.

Another lifetime ago I shot IPSC briefly. Even though I wore double hearing protection, being around ported guns all day and then multiple weekdays in practice, my ears got ruined.

Besides the hearing loss, a rare condition ensued. My hearing became EXTREMELY hypersensitive to noise. I would get an instant migraine from a crying baby, someone clapping their hands, or even the toilet flushing. I actually considered having a nerve cut in my face, 8th nerve(?), that would cause me to go completely deaf.

For twelve years of living hell I had to wear ear molds when I left the house. Very few doctors knew/know of the condition. I was in the medical field at the time and had easy access to research studies. I was able to talk my personal physician into letting me experiment with drugs that were indicated for other things.

Long story short, I've been on a combination drug regimen that has cut my noise triggers by about 85% for 13 years.  I can now live a somewhat normal life.

So now I just want folks to know that Porting does have a downside with excessive noise. I don't usually give my story though.

BTW, nice looking Omega, looks just like mine, except for the cool grips.  :)

I think on the surface it looks like the perfect thing for that light little thing. But unfortunately, too loud for me.  I would have been all over that before my injury.  Since that gun is not usually considered a range gun, I see no danger in a few mags run through it every now and then for your average bear.

I still have a handful of ported pistols. I will probably shoot a few rounds through them at some point, but not many.

I have shot it along side a regular non-ported R9 and with muffs on, I could tell not difference out side.

I have not shot it indoors yet.

Hmm, that's interesting.  Was the recoil noticeably less than the stock R9?

My main objective was to see how much the porting cut velocity so I took along 3 different factory standard pressure loads to chronograph.

The surprising thing was the velocities came in within 10 fps of each other.  I know that a before and after porting test would prove something but that was not possible.

Federal Hydr-Shoks, 124 gr  -  964 fps
Gold Dot 124 grain               - 1021 fps
Gold Dot 115 grain               - 1062 fps

The recoil reduction was noticeable and especially in the 124 gr GD's.  In those I would estimate the recoil reduction at 20 to 30%.  It really to the snap out of shooting it.

The pistol weighs 15.2 ounces with an empty magazine. The barrel is 2.8" long.

Sounds like a worthwhile modification for that gun. And pretty darn good speed for such a short barrel, and with porting!

You know, it may be because of the success the sig 10mm has had. They run a batch and within a couple months, they are nearly all sold out. They haven't started making other version of the 220 10mm because the Lipseys "limited editions" are selling so well.

Even the tacops they introduced which I thought wouldn't sell to well in 10mm has started to show quite low availability even though it only came out a month or two ago.

I think others are starting to see the recent resurgence of the 10mm and are looking to cash in if even only momentarily.

Isn't this the standard reaction to every 10mm "Announcment" anymore?  We've been burned or disappointed so many times, I think that most of us view every new 10mm announcement with at least this level of suspicion.

I sent them an email saying I really want one of their XDm 5.25s in 10mm. Got no response yet.

Shot one is 45acp the other weekend and its a sweet shooter. 10mm would get some real pep with that 5 1/4" barrel.

Personally, I would love to see them come out with an XD MOD.2 sub compact in 10mm.  I've had an old XD compact 45 acp for a while now and a buddy of mine recently bought the MOD.2 sub in 45 acp.

It would be nice to see somebody come out with a serious alternative to the Glock 29 as I shoot the XD sub better than the Glock sub models.
