What is your favorite 10mm pistol and why?
Whichever one is in my hand when a threat appears :-D
Sorry, had to be the first to say it.
This is like picking a favorite child. Not sure it can be done.
I want it to be my Elite Match. Shoots like a dream. Oh so comfy in the hand. Never has a feeding issue. Built like a tank. But so many sharp edges, so heavy and the blueing on the slide rusts so easily I can't even think of carrying it.
My Para P16-10mm. So much of my heart and soul went into this conversion. I fit the high ride beavertail, the ed brown thumb safety, the trigger, the mag release, the flat bottom firing pin stop. I cerakoted the slide. And I learned how to ream a chamber on this gun. Plus, the classic 1911 lines...so svelte. But it is heavy, the barrel doesn't have the best case head support so I see some bulges from time to time with heavy loads. And it FTF's about .3% of the time, unless I use that one magazine in which case it does it about 50% of the time.
My standard witness. Shoots well, doesn't ever jam, comfy in the hand, clean lines, handle heavy ammo fine. But again, it is a brick, and a big one. 4.5" barrel but still longer than a 5" 1911.
Glock 20. Does everything well. But I hate to love a Glock.
Glock 29. Rides with me more and more of late. I gained about 10 lbs and carrying the big Glock doesn't work well til I lose that weight again. But the G29 is a bit small for really fast accurate shooting. I don't feel under-gunned for personal defense, but I know I could shoot better with the full size guns.
Yeah...I can't pick the Glock 20 as it really seems soulless, but it is, utility wise, the best. And the others that I love all have their foibles.
I've gone through stages. My first 10mm was a Wyoming Arms Parker. Basically a 1911 without a grip safety. It was a piece of junk but I couldn't afford a S&W 1006 so I was just happy to own a 10mm. I loved that gun.
I finally purchased a 1006 and 1076 and they were my favorite for years. I went through a divorce, and while we were separated my ex sold them. I made the mistake of leaving one night after we had an argument and she changed the locks. I was in the military and they ordered me to stay away from her so I could do nothing to get them back. I had another 1006 that I "sold" to a friend because the ex wanted it in the divorce. Bastard moved out of state and never let me buy it back.
My first Witness 10mm was my favorite for about 5 years. I carried it everywhere. It had FTF problems. But I couldn't afford another gun during this period of my life.
I had a Delta Elite but it was never a favorite. I'm generally opposed to 1911 style guns.
Right now my favorite is my Glock 29. It's my go to piece.
Only have 1 so it is easy for me to pick.
Delta Elite. After shooting some "full power" rounds from Underwood I know I must get more 10mm's in the stable. The couple of cases I could find(where the heck do they go) from the 1300-180's did not look good and the 155-1500(found only 4) would probably only do in light future loadings. Since I cant really find enough cases- reloading them is pretty much not a problem lol. Next will likely be a G20(also my first Glock), then a fully supported 1911.
I'm with Shogun, just got my first 10mm. So my Glock 29 has to be my favorite. It will become my utilitarian piece. I'm going to add a 4.6" barrel, x-grip, and G20 mag for open carry duty. Then I'll have the 6" barrel for assaulting venison. I want to add Truglo TFO sights.
I was able to handle a Dornaus & Dixon Bren Ten 10mm pistol at a gun show back in the 90's. That pistol felt great ergonomically in my hand and the trigger was very smooth and light. I'd say that would be my favorite if I could have afforded to buy it. That said, my favorite would be my Night Hawk Custom Recon Enforcer 10mm 1911 pistol. Great ergonomics, and all the features (night sights, match barrel, match trigger, light rail, magwell) I want (except that it is steel instead of stainless steel). My second favorite 10mm is my DW stainless Specialist Commander. While not as nice a pistol as the NHC, it has all the features that I want in a 1911 pistol.

The Glock 20 because that is all I have.
.
I only have had 1 but my Para 16-40/10mm Limited conversion has been flawless for me. I only shoot reloads and they are on the warm side (9.5-6 Longshot) 180 gr HAP or 180 GD's and have never never had a FTF. I replaced the mainspring, recoil spring and FPS with the EGW flat bottom. I have about 1K + - through it so far. It is a bit heavy but nice with the loads I shoot and accuracy is as good s I can shoot and the brass now stays in 1 zip code :-)
Well that is an interesting question.
My Glock 20 and 29 are flawless but I just can't love them.
My Delta Elite and my RIA are both great guns and a ton of fun to shoot, but I wouldn't carry them.
I had a S&W 1076 and a 1006 I believe. I let them go when parts started being hard to find and the price kept going up and up.
I've got a Sig 220 SA/DA and it is a dream. Shoots great, is accurate and fun. But it is alot of gun for an 8 rounder.
My current favorite is my Grand Power P40. The action is reduced recoil from a Browning design, I can put a 200 grain at 1250 fps through it with the same or less recoil as a Glock and it has a 14 round magazine. I love it!
Would a 10mm fit in a Sig 229?
Ok ... my answer is too easy. I may have to do something about this only having one 10mm pistol, but I picked one that manufactures patience. Well, it is my second and I love it. I do not miss my stolen RIA 10mm at all - even if I wouldn't mind having it back to redistribute its components.
My Dan Wesson Silverback 10mm is more than adequate for the role of favorite 10mm pistol. Heck, it is easily my favorite pistol ... period.
I have 2 if thats ok?? My Colt and Kimber both shoot like a house on fire. No need for anything else!!
I also only have 1 but I love it. It's the S&W 1086. DAO which means no decocker or safety. That give it clean lines, which I like.

I would say no. I have 229 in .40
The magazine is too short to accommodate the 10mm

For one reason or another the 10's I have sold were for a reason. Gone are the S&W 1006 and Dan Wesson Razorback. I also sold an EAA Match to fund another purchase, but loved it and want another with no rail (Unicorn). The coolest of the bunch for shooting full-bore 10mm is the Hunter though.

Yep! I like the 1086 as well...only drawback is no second strike capability. If you have a round not go off at the pull of the trigger, you will need to rack the slide slightly for it to partially cock the pistol. Not a real issue if you follow the Tap-Rack protocol to clear and feed a new cartridge.
By the way I have two 86's and one of the longer 46...
re: " Would a 10mm fit in a Sig 229? :o

in addition the 220-10 weigh additional 5 ounces more than the 229; something has to tame the added recoil. From what I read in the development of the 10mm version of the 220, considerable engineering was required to make the resulting pistol safe/accurate/reliable/safe. ;D
I just think the 229 is a better looking pistol.
nice pistols gentlemen!! 8) I only have one 10mm pistol so far. its a full size Witness Steel. I like it a lot.
fellas, some lovely handguns in this thread. as of present I only own a G20. that shall change when funds allow. carry on.
i like all my 10mm;s some have bad habits other dont.beeen 10mm since they came out.then all almost left.now everyone gettin on band wagon.my next will be the new ruger.
New Ruger?
I love Ruger Pistols and rifles, some of my favorites. I just hope they don't put it in the American Pistol. The poly frame gun that weighs like a 1911.
Two Glock 20's, a Gen 3 SF and a Gen 4.
Here is the Gen 3:

Here's a couple of my favorites:

It would have to be my Dan Wesson Razorback. Not only was it my first 10mm pistol, it is still the one of my three 10mm pistols that I have my most accurate target from. The only other pistol that is it's equal in my collection is a Sig Sauer P228 with it's 40 S&W barrel. So not only is it one of the two most accurate pistols I own, I can also do THIS with it!
I really like my Sig 220 in 10MM the best. Have the DA/SA version. More slide to grasp to cycle the action. A safe way to decock. Feels good in the hand with it's single stack magazine. Good trigger and shoot accurately to POA. Only the S&W 1076 came close to it.
Glock 20 Gen 3. Only one left. Got rid of EAAs, 1006. Until something catches my fancy, I'm on sidelines. The Gen 3 has took care of my 10mm needs.

Colt Delta Elite with mucho mods.
Really want a new Delta Elite.....though now that Colt is coming out with a rail version.....since my current Delta is my EDC gun, the rail model would do great duty as my HD gun with a light and still be capable of ding SD duty.
Either way, a Colt Delta Elite.
I am also a fan of the Delta Elite :) The new style has more features then the one I bought last year, kind of wished I would have waited about another 6 months, but then I wouldn't have bought my Kimber and we all know two 10s are better then one.

Did the same thing, wished I would have waited. Mine has the extended thumb safety(guess it was not supposed to be there), and I just fitted and installed a drop in WC beaver tail. I went with the drop in so I did not have to modify the frame and can put it back factory. It was a bit uncomfortable shooting underwood ammo with the factory grip safety. I am getting a Glock, and will be trading this DE on the new style/rail version eventually. The unsupported bbl no longer worries me as I will only shoot the underwood or NEW brass full power loads. This is really not a sacrifice as I have recovered just 5 cases from the 100 rds of underwood I have fired. The handloads are much easier to recover and I will reload them with mid velocity for the DE and full power in the Glock. Dang internet had me convinced I bought 1200.00 .40S&W(I absolutely hate that caliber btw). I am so glad I found this site. I love Colts.
My favorite is probably my no dash 610 with 6 inch barrel. It was my first 10mm, it shoots so well, and will handle any load I put through it.
The prettiest one I own has to be my Remsport 1911 Commander.

No... that is the only thing I was hoping for.... it a single stack 8 + 1
Tho there are rumors in future they may come out with a double stack mag ( similar model to others )
And today I have to put the Smith & Wesson 1006 as my favorite 10mm :)

Or you can use it with a P220 45ACP mag and get a few extra rounds.
I only have one, my G29 and it has to be my fav because I'm not looking to replace it. 8)
Three barrels, 40sw, 9x25 Dillon and 10mm extended makes it all worthwhile.

I have 3 1911 type 10mm pistols. I replaced the springs and followers in all my 1911 10mm mags with a Chip McCormack set up where I get 9+1 rounds.

I have been watching this thread.......I believe the answer to the question, my favorite 10mm pistol is ......YES. ;D As previously posted, it would be like choosing which of your children is your favorite. The G-20 was my first, and most carried. My Dan Wesson CBOB is the best looking and most comfortable. The list goes on, and they are all my favorites.
