Title: Extended barrels on G29 and beefed up recoil springs
Post by: Bat Rastard on November 23 2016 10:48:14 AM MST
My options are a 6" with no ports and a 4.6" with 2 ports.
The 6" would look goofy, but give me the 6" boost.
The 4.6" would be more aesthetically pleasing.

My question is: Would the ports negate the velocity boost of of the added .8" of barrel on the 4.6" barrel?

I am also looking at the Wolff recoil spring assembly. Should I go 19 or 21 pound? I have hot loads, but no plans to go nuclear.

My gun is a Gen4. As best I can tell there is not a different recoil spring assembly for the G4 and G3 recoil spring assemblies from Wolff. Does that seem correct?

If your are only using the longer barrel for woods carry or hunting then the 6 inch would be my choice as looks would not matter. The ports on the 4.6 will not negate enough to be noticeable. However the ported 4.6 might be nice for quick follow up shots or at least it should be as it would tame some of the muzzle jump. As far as springs I would shoot it with the stock springs, if it has no issues then I would not change them. You would have to buy the guide rod adapter so the Gen 4 can use the Gen 3 RSA. I'm not aware of anyone making a Gen 4 aftermarket RSA higher than stock weight(that doesn't mean it's not true just I'm not aware of any). Some others will chime in with other thoughts that will be helpful for sure.

I run the Wolf Non Captive two piece rod and the 21 lb spring set.  Works flawlessly even with 40S&W / 357Sig and 9x25 Dillon conversions.

I wish they had the longer barrels for the G-29 when I bought mine, mine are stock length... :(

i tested my 29 with a  chronograph with ported barrel from lone wolf and with stock barrel. The ported did see a slight increase in velocity over the  stock, I want to say it was like 30 fps or so.

I ordered a 21lb spring and will skip the barrel.
Thanks for the replies.

I want a 6" for my 29 for hunting with it. It will suffice until I can get a 20.
Anyone tried a 6" on a 29?
