Title: Remington R51
Post by: PCFlorida on November 21 2016 12:00:48 PM MST
So I stopped at a local gun shop this morning, after I'd been to the range and while I was running some errands. They had an R51 with SP2 in the case and after checking it out I took a chance and bought it. Around $400 out the door. I've seen better prices but it wasn't bad and I was in the mood. Took it home and shot 6 mags in the front yard. Flawless. Shooting a bit low, I need to see if it is me or the gun. Neat gun, still working on the disassembly, it is total foreign to me. Kind of like the first time I took a 1911 apart many years ago. Could become my EDC, I'll see.

Thanks for the report!  Glad to hear that this second release works much better than the first fiasco.

I really like the way it feels in the hand and and I think that it looks cool, though many hate the looks.

I almost bought one a few weeks ago at the gun show, but  came across some other super deals instead. I'm sure I'll snag one down the trail.

Enjoy!  :D

Yes, after I wring it out I'll have a good feel for it, but so far so good.

You are lucky you live in a place where you can do that. If I did that, I would be in jail.

P.S. Hope the R51 works out. Looks like a nice gun. Unfortunately we can't have it in California.

It isn't on the 'list' of allowed guns? Any chance it will be added?

I think my_old_glock was referring to the shooting in the front yard part.  Being city dwellers, some people get a mite anxious when you start popping caps in the hood.

LOL, got it. I'd be nervous if my neighbors didn't let a few go everyday. But we are staunch Republican's, and we may even be rednecks :)

NO. If Remington wanted to add it to the list, they would need to get the gun microstamped. Microstamping put the guns serial number on the case every time a round is fired. A gun needs to put a microstamp on two places on a case. One is by in graving a micro bar-code on the firing pin face. Another way is by engraving a bar code on the extractor or inside the chamber so that it will imprint a serial number when the brass case expands. The biggest problem is that the technology does not exist to do such a thing. Yes the government can require something that doesn't exist.

So you are basically frozen in time with no new guns ever added. That is unfortunate. I'm pretty sure that "shall not be infringed" does not exist there. What a shame. Any chance of moving?

I think the only safety on the R51 is the grip safety.

Does that meet California requirements?

I am planning on it. I wanted to get out last summer, but I am still here.

I do not know.

California also wants a loaded chamber indicator, and a magazine disconnect safety, so the gun will not fire if the magazine is removed.

Well it has the loaded chamber indicator, but not the magazine disconnect (thank goodness) and as stated earlier (Beemer! ?) the only safety besides the one between your ears is the grip safety. For me that is more than adequate, for others perhaps it is not. Keep working on the move, California is such a disappointment.
