Title: Rock Island GI 10mm??
Post by: Buddy10mm on November 12 2016 09:17:30 PM MST
I came across this on Gunbroker.  When I checked the Armscor website, I didn't see anything listed.  I'd be curious if anyone knows anything about this GI version:

I wouldn't. Because of sights. Better to get RIA model with upgrades you want.

I don't know that I'm thinking about getting one - I've already got a Razorback.  I just didn't know they made the 10mm in a G.I. model, and was curious as to where it came from.

Just to update: I contacted Rock Island/Armscor.  Even though it's not listed on their site, they do make a 10mm GI model.  The model number is 51508.  It's exclusive through Elletts.
So, I guess if you want a 10mm that you can fully customize to make your own... you've got a good base to start with.

No you don't because you have to mill the slide just to put sights on it. Better to get better model IMHO.

Relax!  ;D You've made the point about sights.  I happen to agree with you - milling out a slide is expensive and, at this point an unnecessary step. But some people like starting from "scratch," as it were, especially some 1911 folks.  Just trying to point out the 10mm options that are out there, not trying to pick a fight.

I am not worked up....

But, I think a RIA makes a poor choice for a base gun.  I would rather start with a bare caspian frame/slide, or a DE.  Reason being the role mark on the side.

RIA is a budget brand.  While the frames and slides appear to be well made and no doubt would server as a fine foundation for a shooting gun, you will end up with an expensive custom gun worth $400.00.

If, on the other hand, the roll mark is Colt or Caspian, then you will be able to recoup most of your investment if you ever need to sell your gun.

I agree with everything you said.  Like I said - just putting out info on another 10mm.

Yeah...

On the other hand, I think it is awesome to have ann RIA plain GI option in 10mm.  Very cool, something I will probably look into.

You just HAD to say that, didn't you?  Now I'm thinking how cool a GI 10mm would be.  Gotta add another handgun to my list...
