Title: Barrel accuracy
Post by: triggerman10 on November 06 2016 03:31:13 PM MST
I've had a G20 SF for about a year now and love the thing. I bought a 5" lone wolf barrel to shoot lead and get a little more velocity. The problem is it is worse than the factory barrel for accuracy,6-8' groups at 50 yds. I sent it back to lw once, they say they polished something and found no problems with it. I've tried 6 different bullets and 3 powders, accuracy stinks. I've been shooting for a long time and don't think it's me. Any suggestions?

More information needed.

First, did you mean 6"-8" (inch) groups?  I am not sure I would even call 6'-8' (feet) a group.  Or even a pattern.

Second, is this with cast bullets or jacketed bullets?

Third, how does it group with the factory barrel?

Fourth, does the LW barrel lock up tight in the gun?

And then, if these are cast bullets:

What is the groove diameter of the barrel as measured by slugging?

What is the as loaded diameter of the cast bullets?  What lube?  Have you pulled a loaded bullet to ensure it is not being "swaged" down during the loading/crimping process?

What alloy of lead, or in lieu of that what hardness is the lead?

How does it shoot at 21'?  7 yards is close and can help provide insight.
What sights are you working with? Aim small miss small!  I aim at a dime size spot at 25 yards...

6-8 inches, sorry. Cast and jacketed bullets of different weights. Groups are about half that w/factory barrel, jacketed only of course. Lockup seems as good at factory barrel. I'm using Glock adjustable sights and shooting at 2" shoot n see pasters.

I would examine the crown for nicks, and I would focus on just jacketed bullets until I had duplicated or exceeded the accuracy of the factory barrel.  I would shoot five shot groups and change back and forth between the barrels between each group.  That way I am testing independent of any other variable to the best I can.  MIght wanna give the barrel throat a look-see as well.

So far the best has been the 180 gold dot. At 25 yds it's under 2" but at 50 it's around 4-6" range. I've also tried some new recoil springs and 200 gr xtp's. They're showing promise with the 24# spring and the lone wolf bbl. I think I need a reflex sight for the longer range though.
