I have 4 rounds of Silvertips left and plan on spending them passing over the chrony for numbers. Hope to get good readings and will try to video. This will be a retest and I am also doing DoubleTap .357's 125 and 158 that I purchased about 2 years ago. Just another check of Chrony plus I will pass a few American Eagle 9mm's over for another data point (retest).
Try to do this in phases but it was much cooler (40's) today and windy. To the point of not much 10mm testing being done because of lost brass! Winchester Silvertips previous results a few months back: Winchester 175gr Silvertips (Match) 1294, 1309, 1251, 1223, 1281, 1295. Average = 1275.5 FPS/ 632.07 LBS
Today Silvertips: (Match) 1240, 1240, 1218, 1206. Average = 1226 FPS/ 583.94 LBS. About 50 FPS slower
I did Underwood 180gr. FMJ reloads (Delta-Lite) out of the (Match) right after the Silvertips: 1232, 1213, 1234, 1214, 1202. Average = 1219 FPS/ 593.79 LBS. Felt real similar in the hand Chrony to the Silvertips.
Always a joy to shoot the Match :D
MAC Ammo 165gr Razorbacks previous test results a few months ago (Match): 1324, 1271, 1329, 1270, 1310. Average = 1300.8 FPS/ 619.80 LBS
MAC Ammo 165gr Razorbacks (Match): 1317, 1318. Average = 1317.5 FPS/ 635.82 LBS. Tested a little higher today by the two being consistent.
DoubleTap .357! Now recently I acquired some new (2012) DoubleTap 158gr's and got my highest readings ever for 158's about 3 weeks ago out of them (GP100): 1420, 1425, 1420, 1446. Average = 1420.4 FPS/ 707.67 LBS
Today's results from my box of two year old DoubleTap 158's rated 1408 FPS (GP100) 1274, 1295, 1340, 1339, 1320. Average = 1313.6 FPS/ 605.25 LBS.
I didn't record out all the shots two years ago but same box of 158gr ammo two years ago (GP100) Average =
DoubleTap 158gr. JHP- 1298.33/591.5. Close enough for me to 2 years ago! I should note the hand Chrony of the newer stuff I tested here recently and the muzzle blast were totally different. Perhaps they had powder issues or now are loading as they should!
I also did American Eagle 158gr again just to see how it compared to DoubleTap on the same day right after (GP100): 1264, 1293, 1292, 1298, 1231, 1272. Average = 1275 FPS/ 570.20 LBS. I knew it felt close to the old DoubleTap but not the newer batch.
Also did 2 year old DoubleTap 125gr rated 1605 FPS out of (GP100) today: 1453, 1462, 1470, 1489, 1472. Average = 1469.2 FPS/ 598.99 LBS.
Same box 2 years ago: .357 Mag DoubleTap 125gr Bonded JHP - 1507.33/630.8 Little slower and still more than 100 FPS off the advertised.
Used Eley Sport 40gr (Subsonic) test ammo for setup. It's on the verge of not cycling my MK3 slide so I know it's subsonic: 975, 975, 971, 983, 911, 977. Under 1000 FPS so looks good since previous test said 967.
X22LR previous 1119. Today 1118.8 FPS
Yellow Jackets previous 1162. Today 1149.8 FPS
Fiocchi 22 HVCHP previous 1075. Today 1087.75 FPS
Isn't the 125gr load a solid copper bullet by Barnes, as opposed to a bonded jacket/core type?
In .357? No it's a Gold Dot.
We are back on the same page. Thanks.
I got some spread on the Silvertips last time. Any thoughts on the results here? :o
Not really. It's kind of like they just don't excite me anyway, so I just don't care much one way or the other. That's just me though, I realize lots of others like them a lot.
I would load them up in say a G29.
They work but at almost $1/round they don't move the Earth either.
For me the negative isn't the velocity, it's the 175gr Silvertip bullet used.
I haven't found them to expand reliably compared to Nosler, XTP, Golden Sabers, or Gold Dots.
I don't have any 10mm all Coppers. For HD that's my preferred and I need to get some for chopinbloc. Kevin's version was supposed to be here now.
