Title: How do you grip your revolver? Like this video?
Post by: Intercooler on August 24 2016 07:42:51 PM MDT
Do you like the way he suggests to do it?

I should try a couple of different ways of doing it. I personally keep my digits away from the gap or cylinder.

I'd say the technique he's teaching is sound.   ;D
Just Google cylinder gap injuries to find many examples of the damage the gasses blasting out between the cylinder gap and forcing cone on a revolver can do.  Mythbusters, Hickok45 and many, many others have done pieces and segments documenting what happens.

Pistol, thumbs forward, pointing at the target.

Revolver, thumbs tucked, pointed at the ground.

The main thing with revolvers is cylinder gap, nothing in front of that area as the gasses can cut you...But you knew that!
He does cover the bases well...

Frame size and grip size and hand size all come into play when gripping the revolver. As long as you're fast and delivering hits your method is good enough...

Thanks for the post IC
Interesting how he switches his grip, with each different Grip style he encounters

Everybody's hands are different. Try many different methods.

I don't shoot a revolver anymore-sold it, miss it, LOL.  But I hold my 1911 the same way he's showing, oddly enough.  Except on a full frame like my 1911, my left index finger is actually kind of resting on the trigger guard.  It feels good to me, and while my right arm is out, I put a tad bit of pressure pulling my right arm towards me with my left arm.  I never quite liked my left hand kind of under my right hand.

I shoot better than most of the people I shoot with, but I think it is whatever suits you the best, and feels right, might even change with different guns.

Kind of off topic, but not really..... when I shoot my M1A with a scope, I sometimes flip up the butt plate, it almost instantly locked up my stance and tightened my groups.  I felt stupid as hell doing this, until I posted this "trick" on a forum.... turns out tons of guys do it, LOL!!!  It's just not common, well, because what other rifle has a butt plate?  Bottom line, do whatever feels best and gets results!!   ....in a safe manner of course.
