Was in Gander Mountain ( va ) last week and was able to pick up some 180 Sig fmj ammo... 4 boxes
Was impress with the ammo for stock ammo... compared to my normal ( 10.4 gr of blue dot with 180gr head ) , it felt a bit more stout.
What i also felt was that the brass for reloading was a bit softer than the normal Starline I use, almost like I could feel the difference... anyone else comment?
As as PS, my normal blue dot above goes to .432 in stock g20 v3 and I found the Sig to hit .433- .4335 with a few at .434 ( out of 100 )
Not even my 180/800x loads at 9 grs hit .434
Probably par for the course with the Sig Brass...I find Starline on the soft side but it is a reloaders brass where work hardening happens over several uses...
my first 10mm was a glock20 gen4.
I bought a bunch of sig 180 gr. fmj with the intent of using the fired brass for reloading.
there were no signs of the dreaded glock "smile" on the brass after the initial firing.
my reloaded ammo I used was 9.6 gr. of blue dot with X-treme 180 gr. heavy plated concave base flat points.
I did see the smiles after the first reloading. the cases were not bulged but there was a line on the brass where it was not supported in the chamber.
to me this indicates a weakness in the case and makes it suspect for further reloading.
this particular load is not in the "hot" category. makes me wonder about sig brass.
I haven't shot the glock since I fell in love with my new D/W razorback... :-*
On my second round of using the Sig cases ( first reload ) I went with my normal 10.4 of Blue Dot and a 180 xtreme plated.... only had 100 cases
Found the cases to be soft, prob will not be using them or will use them where I don't want the cases back.
Starline is much better brass IMO for reloading.
9.6 gr. BD is barely a starting load for almost any 180 gr. lead bullet. If the brass is creasing with that load, the brass is junk. I wouldn't reload it.
that's true, it was just a starting load. it chronographed at 1015 fps.
I have since ordered starline brass and will up the powder charge.
the sig brass is in the scrap bucket.
