Hey guys,
Have any of you tried sig v crown ammo on a hog? I picked up a couple boxes of the stuff with the intention of using it for both self defense (from poachers) and hog hunting. I imagine it'll do the trick with the 2 legged predators but how will it stack up against hogs?
Thanks,
Christian
I ask this because while many seem to dislike hollow points for hunting (for obvious reasons) many 10mm users really like the Hornady XTP.
As in all hunting situations, shot placent is most important. Huge Grizzly have
been taken with 22lr (although I definitely wouldn't want to try it).
I've been fortunate enough to harvest quite a few wild hogs, couple even with 10mm (one of which
was north of 300lbs). Hogs are tuff as hell and even with a rifle hunter needs to
be mindful of shot placement. I've seen hogs hit solid with 30-06 & 270 run off
and be lost.
As to your question. I wouldn't hesitate to carry my Glock 20 loaded with the Sig V Crowns
in hog areas. I've used the XTP bullet loaded by Underwood successfully in previous hog
hunts but I consider the 180gr V Crowns to be acceptable alternative.
Also have preference for head or just behind ear hole (spine) shots with handguns on hogs.
Placed in either spot makes tracking them real, real easy.
Good luck.
Thanks for your answer. I too realize the importance of shot placement I was just asking because I was curious as to whether or not the hollow points would penetrate deep enough.
A recent Keith Warren 10mm (Sig P220) hog hunt using 180 gr XTP bullet loaded by Freedom Munition.
Plenty impressive results.
I think Sig V-Crowns would perform similarly.
