Title: Glock 20 Gen4 Barrel and RSA recommendations
Post by: Ag111 on July 11 2016 07:14:33 AM MDT
Hello all!

I'm a beginner here and could use a little help.  I have a Glock 20 Gen4 Full FDE that I purchased a year ago.  To date I have about 300 rounds through it.  It has been susceptible to feeding issues but i think that has more to do with it not being broken in.  I shot 150 rounds through it yesterday starting with weak ammo and building up to full strength 200 XTP Underwood.  I only had 1 FTF with the 200 Underwood and i limp-wristed it, so i think she is starting to break in a little bit.

I would like to use this gun for pig hunting and woods carry.  I plan on loading it with 200 grain Underwood or Double Tap hard cast loads and have decided to get a 6" barrel.

Questions:

1) Should I use the Gen4 OEM RSA with 18# double spring or a Gen3 RSA and adapter with 22# spring?  Which is better for reliability?

2) Should I go with the 6" Lone Wolf or 6" KKM barrel?

3) If i change barrels and RSAs, do i need to start the break-in period again?

I am a bowhunting guy not a pistol guy so thank you for the help!

Best for reliability is to leave it alone.  But, then, I have a Gen 3 that never hiccups at anything, and you are not having that experience.

As you are not a pistol guy, I would find someone who is and have them run your gun, and examine your technique.  No sense throwing money at the gun if a tweak to the operator is all that is needed.

As far as 6" barrels, I will recuse myself as I don't have one.  (I will comment that between those two I would probably buy price.)

Finally, your break in period will start over again, but also keep in mind that a break in period is not really normal for a Glock.

1) Since you want to use it for hunting and woods carry, you most likely will need to tailor the spring to the load. I do not know if they make different weight double spring replacement for Gen4 pistols. You may need an aftermarket Gen3 guide rod anyways.

2) I have several LW barrels, and I am happy with them. I do not know anything about the KKM barrel.

3) You shouldn't need to break-in the barrel or spring.

AG;

I have a KKM barrel in my Glock 20 Gen 4 and love it.  All Glocks in the future will get this barrel.  Exceptional craftsmanship, quality and best of all my groups reduced with it.

DEFINITELY worth the money.  I imagine Lone Wolf is a quality product too but I just love my KKM.

Store the gun locked open, this will weaken the recoil spring slightly over time.
BTW KKM rules, barrels with dogs etched into them are lame and lower quality.
